Who You Are

As the Head of People Operations at Sila, you will play a critical role in building an enduring company that takes on the toughest battery materials challenges with science at scale. Reporting to the VP of People & Culture and working cross-functionally with leaders in Finance and Legal, you will play a key role in helping Sila transition from an R&D startup to manufacturing excellence as we grow from 350 to 500 to 1000 employees and beyond.

You are an inspirational, hands-on, pragmatic leader who has scaled People Ops in a growth-phase start-up or other growing business. Your approach is thoughtful and collaborative, yet firm, fair, and consistent. You love to move quickly, stay organized, and handle a range of initiatives. You are passionate about helping build an inclusive, enviable place to work through efficient, effective, and equitable workflows and policies.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Lead and collaborate. Inspire, lead, and grow a team of employees and contractors.
  • Build HR basics. Manage, improve, and scale HR fundamentals including benefits and leave administration, employee relations, compliance, off-boarding, and Sila’s HRIS.
  • Develop seamless, accurate, transparent workflows with Finance and Legal.
  • Stay abreast of relevant compliance and employment law and introduce best practices, prepare policies and the handbook, and maintain employee files.
  • Optimize HR Business Intelligence. Collect and select the right quantitative reporting and metrics that will lead to impactful reporting, prioritization, and change.
  • Audit and assure the accuracy of our HR systems, data, practices, and policies.
  • Scale the People & Culture team’s work intake and prioritization system, documentation, and standard operating procedures.

Knowledge and Skill Requirements

  • 7+ years of prior human resources operations experience in a high-growth environment. 3+ years managing a team. 2+ years working in an organization with non-exempt, hourly, operational personnel.
  • Delivers results in a fast-paced, dynamic environment: uses a highly organized, systematic, and responsive approach. Comfortable working in a transparent and highly communicative manner. Articulates own vision while also demonstrating flexibility to meet business needs.
  • Proven track record and passion for optimizing and scaling effective, culture-aligned, and compliant policies and workflows.
  • Experience with HRIS system implementation, optimization, and oversight (ADP, Kronos, Workday, others). Excellent data reporting skills using Google sheets and other tools.
  • Understanding of US employment law and associated best practices.
  • Available to work in our Alameda, CA offices at least 3 days per week.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

  • Move long distances (such as from building to building) and be stationary for extended periods
  • Operate a computer and other office equipment, such as a laptop, copier/printer, etc in a fixed location
