Friends of the Earth is committed to justice and equality. We value diversity at all levels of the organization and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees. We believe that a range of perspectives makes our team more creative, flexible and impactful.

What We Are Looking For: Are you a seasoned campaigner with strong organizing and communication skills? Are you looking to help design and build an exciting new program in a growing campaign area? Are you passionate about collaboratively designing and implementing campaign plans pressuring financiers and companies on agriculture and climate change? Do you have the desire to work with colleagues and allies to collectively mobilize a global movement to end factory farm finance?

If so, this is the position for you. We want you to succeed and we want to pay you a competitive wage that is in line with your experience. The salary range for this full-time remote role is $79,000-$85,000. This is a remote position.

About the Role: This Senior Campaigner role is part of a new international finance program area for Friends of the Earth within the Food and Agriculture team. As such, this is a newly created senior role requiring a keen understanding of the finance landscape and strong personal leadership qualities. In addition to the Food and Agriculture team, you will be working in close partnership with FoE’s Forest & Climate teams.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Work with the team to develop and implement high impact campaigns designed to shift private sector finance out of industrial animal agriculture and into ecological farming.
  • Build effective, broad-based coalitions and advocacy strategies to advance campaign objectives.
  • Engage with companies, financiers and policymakers on the social and environmental harms of industrial animal agriculture and the need for stronger private and public finance policy.
  • Engage with external allies and partners in the U.S., Europe and Global South, including frontline groups in Latin America.

Who You Are:

You are a transformational and authentic leader. You are a passionate social change activist with an international perspective and an ability to mobilize people to take bold action. You are a creative thinker and a believer in building people power to achieve system change. You’re a team player with a collaborative mindset, excellent interpersonal communication skills, and an ability to work dynamically both independently and as part of a team.

Required Qualifications:

  • At least 6 years of experience and demonstrated success in a similar or related role including corporate campaigning and organizing, preferably at a campaign-oriented organization (relevant educational experience can be considered in lieu of work experience) or equivalent experience in another sector.
  • A passion for action on the environment and a commitment to social justice.
  • A sophisticated understanding of private finance, including ESG strategies.
  • Understanding of the industrial agriculture system, the intersection between food and climate, the connection of food justice to racial justice, and the benefits of ecological farming systems.
  • Ability to balance and effectively prioritize across a wide range of campaign activities including advocacy, online and offline organizing, public speaking, coalition work, research, and communications.
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills and comfort with presenting material to a wide range of audiences, including civil society organizations, funders, supporters, journalists, companies, bank staff and government officials.
  • Excellent decision-making, team building, time management, prioritization and networking skills; demonstrated initiative, flexibility and creativity.
  • Ability to occasionally travel domestically and potentially internationally (once Covid restrictions are lifted).
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to inspire trust and respect among colleagues and external partners.
  • All candidates must be authorized to work in the United States. FOE does not sponsor any employment related visas.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A background in international development policy, environmental issues, public health, racial justice, food systems, environmental science, and/or public policy.
  • An understanding of international financial institutions and global agricultural supply chains (deforestation, regenerative agriculture, plant proteins).
  • Fluency in Spanish and/or Portuguese.

Perks & Benefits:

We are a generous employer with benefits that will take care of you.  In addition to a competitive salary, we provide:

  • 37.5-hour work week
  • 100% employer paid medical, dental and vision coverage (80% for eligible dependents)
  • Disability and Life Insurance
