Supported by leading investors such as Breakthrough Energy Ventures, ArcelorMittal, TPG Rise, MIT’s The Engine, and others, we share a common belief that low-cost, multi-day energy storage is the key to enable tomorrow’s zero carbon electric grid. Driven by our core values of humanity, excellence, and creativity, we are deeply motivated and inspired to create a better world. We need talented, hardworking individuals who share our goal of tackling the challenge of climate change. Do you want to work with us today to build a better tomorrow?

Role Description
Form’s Characterization as a Service Team is looking for a Materials Engineer to help us develop our core technology by empirically assessing degradation mechanisms and proposing corrective actions. In this role, you will initiate a Failure Analysis function within the Characterization Service to assess cell and system level performance as it pertains to degradation and failure mechanisms. You will identify processes and procedures for the planning and execution phases of product intent design dissections, conduct root cause analysis efforts and maintain a robust FMEA through collection of empirical data. You will be part of a highly cross functional team, and have the opportunity to grow your engineering and leadership skills.

What You'll Do:

  • Collaborate with the Cell Development and Battery Products teams to develop a deep understanding for component and systems designs
  • Perform first of a kind product dissection with facilitation from Failure Analysis Technicians
  • Standardize procedures and create associated documentation to efficiently train others for execution
  • Participate in root cause analysis strategy development and FMEA documentation to manage the team’s knowledge base of degradation and failure modes
  • Facilitate the spatial expansion of the laboratory space and dissection instrumentation
  • Utilize Characterization as a Service to pinpoint sources of cell or system defects

What You'll Bring:

  • 3+ years of industry experience developing failure analysis procedures based on first principles and commonly used organizational tools
  • Familiarity with mechanical and material failure analysis in chemical systems
  • Experience using cloud based organizational tools
  • Strong communication skills within a group of peers and broader organization
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Materials Science or Chemical Engineering
