Do you also have the self-motivation, curiosity, creativity, and ability to persuade others toward meaningful results? Do you have a passion for making the world a better place? If yes, then join our growing team!

We highly encourage individuals of underrepresented groups to apply!

When you join the RMI team, you are empowered to make an impact. Regardless of your background or level of experience, you will have the opportunity to help bring about change in the world that you might not find anywhere else in your career. You will be surrounded by team members who are passionate about transforming the global energy system.

RMI is seeking multiple Associates (entry-level research and collaboration positions) to support our many global program teams. In this role, you will join other Associates as a cohort to foster collaboration, camaraderie, and a shared experience. You will have the opportunity to participate in cohort learning opportunities and rotational assignments within different programs as a path to finding the right match for you to be placed with one program long term.

Position Overview

As an Associate, you are a creative problem-solver who uses your quantitative, technical, and analytical abilities to conduct compelling research and assessment around vital energy issues. You will collaborate with colleagues to craft visionary yet practical solutions for our research questions and clients. You will develop expertise in the content area of your specific program within RMI and will provide subject-matter support on that topic to other staff members.

You will be an individual contributor and work closely with colleagues on projects under the direction of more senior staff.

Major Roles and Responsibilities

  • Present quantitative information in a clear, visual format.

  • Engage with external experts via phone interviews, conferences, and on occasion, respond to outreach requests.

Required Skills and Experiences

  • Undergraduate degree in an applicable field such as engineering (mechanical, electrical, civil, energy), business (marketing, finance, international), economics, computer science, mathematics, architecture, policy, physical and social sciences

  • Ability to design, create, and run Excel-based models

Page Break

Desired Skills and Experiences

  • Understanding of basic financial analysis and metrics (e.g., NPV, cash flows)

  •  2-4 years of cumulative work experience

  • A graduate degree

  • Familiarity with one area of our global program work

  • Prior experience in consulting, project management, or other related fields

  • Ability to stick with a problem through resolution but also knowing when to ask for help

  • Ability to listen actively, be diplomatic, and share knowledge and information well

  • Willingness to plunge into unfamiliar disciplines and take risks by exploring and testing new ideas

  • Experience working among diverse groups with varying perspectives and/or facilitating challenging conversation

  • Demonstrated initiative and accomplishment in previous work

We encourage anyone who is interested in this role to apply, regardless of whether you feel you meet 100% of the qualifications. The top candidates will bring their own unique perspectives, experiences, and backgrounds from a variety of industries along with many but not necessarily all the skills listed above. We offer professional learning and training opportunities to help you develop the skills you may not have had the opportunity to cultivate yet.
