Job Description

Generate builds, owns, and operates sustainable infrastructure in energy, mobility, water, waste, and agriculture.

 

INTRODUCTION

Generate Capital is hiring a Director of Marketing and Communications to drive our brand development, messaging, media relations, lead generation, and partner and customer acquisition activities. Reporting to the CEO, your work will be imperative to building our brand and scaling our impact.

Generate Capital, on the other hand, is focused on being a capital partner to pioneering project developers and solution providers that are typically overlooked by traditional financiers for a variety of reasons: asset size, underwriting complexity, project duration and perceived risk. As a long-term investor with truly permanent capital, Generate Capital is the only credible long-term partner for these pioneers, and the best infrastructure provider for these resource customers.

ABOUT YOU

You are a natural storyteller, synthesizer, and problem-solver — able to manage many moving parts and turn technical or complex concepts into clear, digestible messages. You are constantly struck by new creative ideas and novel, clear ways to communicate them. You love words, design, and art, and would really love to strategically employ them in a way that creates significant real-world change aligned with your values. You are articulate, authentic, and dedicated to building long-term relationships and results (No cheap content. No cheap assets).

 

What you will be doing at Generate Capital as the Director of Marketing and Communications:

  • Build trust with each of our many stakeholders
  • Translate a deep understanding of our products, industry(ies), history, and vision into highly effective tools for initiating and building relationships with partners and customers
  • Develop comprehensive marketing plans for each Generate product/service and audience. Implement programs and campaigns that consistently generate new, high-quality leads for our company
  • Collaborate across our company and create and manage training to ensure effectiveness and consistency across teams and products.
  • Coordinate and manage design, media, and other relevant partners as necessary
  • Create and maintain concise yet compelling content for a variety of channels (e.g., articles, websites, presentations, press releases, social media, etc.)
  • Ensure Generate Capital’s corporate messaging brand guidelines are followed throughout all marketing and communication channels
  • Work with Generate’s teams to identify, evaluate, and track media opportunities (especially writing and speaking) while recognizing that sometimes the best external strategy is silence.
  • Protect and grow Generate Capital’s profile as a thought leader in the sustainable infrastructure and investments space
  • Carry out or invent other tasks within the scope, spirit, and purpose of the role

Candidate requirements and qualifications:

  • 5-8 years’ experience in marketing financial products or technology solutions, ideally within the renewable energy and/or asset management sectors
  • Thorough understanding of our partners’ and customers’ needs and how they work
  • Unimpeachable integrity and glowing references
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, including empathy, intuition, and listening as well as strong writing, editing, and basic design skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders
  • High level of self-awareness and humility, with excitement about confronting uncomfortable situations or new challenges
  • Intellectual agility, curiosity, and creativity; problem-solving is your default mode
  • Entrepreneurial spirit: flexibility, comfort with risk, recognition that “perfect can be the enemy of the good”
  • Superior project and time management skills and high attention to detail
  • Experience sourcing and managing multiple communications and design contractors for quality and timeliness
  • Savvy with Microsoft Office. Graphic design skills are a plus
  • Experience with sophisticated, minimalist, tailored and/or high-value brands is an asset

 

This position will be based in our San Francisco, CA office.
