Lucid Motors is designing and creating a breakthrough electric car in the heart of Silicon Valley. To do so, we’re looking for a Vehicle Dynamics Senior Technical Specialist with extensive experience designing, developing and delivering world-class suspension, steering and braking systems.

Your Role:

  • Contribute to the setting of vehicle dynamics and performance targets, through both benchmarking and identification of innovative paths to surpass what already exists
  • Develop component-, system- and vehicle-level virtual models, and rapidly iterate designs through simulation to achieve world-class vehicle attributes
  • Collect and analyze data from physical testing, establishing feedback loops to correlate and validate models
  • Design, own, implement and document vehicle dynamics test, development, and validation plans
  • Create and execute vehicle dynamics test methods and procedures
  • Support technology, system and supplier selection
  • Develop and tune vehicle systems including elastokinematics, spring systems, passive/semi-active/fully-active damping, steering, braking, stability, driveline dynamics, tires
  • Contribute to our ethos of collaboration, continual learning, and creative problem solving
  • Develop key relationships with both internal teams and external suppliers, using creativity and teamwork to solve problems and integrate multiple systems in the most efficient way possible
  • Work closely with stakeholders and attribute owners across the company (Vehicle Safety, NVH, Aerodynamics, Durability, Manufacturing, Program Management, Purchasing, Finance, etc.) to find optimal solutions for the complete vehicle
  • Manage multiple complex projects in a matrixed, fast-paced, high growth and changing environment
  • Travel domestically and internationally as required
  • Work with flexibility and commitment to solving whatever problems we encounter, in a high-pressure environment, to deliver a vehicle with truly world-class attributes

Qualifications:

  • Expert knowledge of multibody simulation of vehicle attributes (preferably MSC ADAMS Solver/Car/Ride/Tire)
  • Extensive experience in the development and tuning, at component-, system- and vehicle-level, of elastokinematics, spring systems, passive/semi-active/fully-active damping, steering, braking, stability, driveline dynamics, tires
  • Extensive experience of vehicle-based objective and subjective assessment of benchmark vehicles and prototypes
  • Strong analytical skills and a data-driven approach
  • Deep understanding and experience of vehicle dynamics theory and application
  • Excellent fundamental physics and engineering understanding, and the ability to apply first principles to fully comprehend issues and develop optimized solutions
  • Knowledge of competitor, market, industry and homologation trends, and the ability to anticipate their influence on our products
  • A strong understanding of various analysis tools used by interfacing functional areas e.g. Matlab, Simulink, ANSYS, OptiStruct, ADAMS, SHARK
  • A proven track record of technical excellence in automotive engineering
  • A strong desire to create state-of-the-art engineering products as an integral part of a very capable team
  • A flair for creative engineering and problem solving, with the confidence to challenge conventional thinking while managing risk
  • 10+ years of automotive industry experience
  • Advanced driving skills, preferably development-oriented
  • The ability to build strong relationships and rapport throughout the company, and influence at all levels
  • Project leadership and mentoring skills

Advantageous:

  • Knowledge of NVH, aerodynamics and durability principles
  • Familiarity with 3D CAD fundamentals

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in an applicable Engineering discipline
  • Master’s Degree Preferred
