We are seeking a Grasslands Carbon Business Development Manager to join our expanding team and lead our effort to preserve soil carbon. By preventing activities such as tillage, cropland conversion, and synthetic fertilizer use, we can protect our nation’s grasslands and limit future greenhouse gas emissions.</p><p>As Business Development Manager, you will be responsible for sourcing new opportunities for AgriCapture’s grasslands carbon offset program by developing relationships with land trusts and landowners willing to conserve grasslands and get rewarded for storing carbon. This position is field-based, with an expectation of travel to attend conferences, network, meet prospective land trust partners and landowners, and develop an ecosystem of referrals. You will spend most of your time securing acreage for new carbon projects- researching suitable land trusts and contacting them or responding to referrals and introductions. You will lead project feasibility analysis, working with AgriCapture’s technology team and a dedicated technical Project Manager, and direct all communication with the land trust and/or landowner. </p><p>This role requires an individual with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, a strong network in the land trust community in the following focus states: TX, OK, NE, KS, ND, SD, CO and MT, a willingness to travel, and a solid understanding of land conservation principles. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing analyses which answer some of the most complex and challenging questions on the road to a net-zero or net-positive economy, and for using these insights to help build consensus on critical actions for the next decade. You have a working understanding of how soils vary across a landscape, ecosystems, and farming systems. </li><li><b>Strong understanding of soil carbon and GHG dynamics of soils and soil use, especially in broadacre agricultural contexts. </b>You understand how agricultural practices and climate impact intersect. You’re an expert in the principles of soil science especially insofar as they are related to quantification of soil carbon stocks and stock changes over time.</li><li><b>Familiarity with public soil data sets, stratification techniques, and/or digital soil mapping technologies and strategies.</b> Yard Stick thinks about soil sampling and its intersection with soil datasets with regularity. You have a demonstrated understanding of field- and region-scale soil variability. You know how soil characteristics change across the US, ideally with an emphasis on the Midwest, and can use that understanding to inform experimental plans. You’ll comfortably go explore the use of SSURGO data sets, emerging stratification techniques for designing soil carbon sampling plans, and you’ll happily dig into a carbon market’s guidance on quantifying stock uncertainty for an afternoon.</li><li><b>Ability to link scientific insight to company strategy. </b>You instinctively interpret information in terms of what Yard Stick should <b>do</b>, and you proactively highlight emerging science’s implications for Yard Stick’s offerings.
