<p><strong>The Program</strong></p>
<p>PSR&rsquo;s Environment and Health (E&amp;H) program amplifies the voices of health professionals and other advocates on the catastrophic health consequences of climate change and energy policy. We work by supporting efforts at the local, state, and federal level to end U.S. reliance on fossil fuels and fossil fuel exports; promoting the transition to clean, safe renewable energy and energy efficiency; protecting federal policies and programs that safeguard clean air and our climate; and educating and mobilizing health professionals to speak about climate change as a health crisis.</p>
<p><strong>Areas of Responsibility</strong></p>
<p><em>Program and Policy </em></p>
<ul>
<li>Develops PSR program strategies and policy positions on climate change, energy and related environmental health issues in consultation with PSR chapters and the Environment &amp; Health Committee.</li>
<li>Undertakes issue and policy analysis and writes reports, comments, briefing papers, public and policy-maker educational materials, and articles for PSR&rsquo;s publications and website.</li>
<li>Advises PSR chapters, Board leadership and key advocates on policy and programs on environmental health-related issues. Promotes their active engagement in the E&amp;H program as appropriate.</li>
<li>Collaborates with allies in the environment and health communities. Represents PSR and speaks at internal and external educational programs and conferences.</li>
<li>Participates in appropriate national working groups to stay abreast of policy issues, contribute the health focus to these meetings, and build collaboration between PSR and allies.</li>

<p><em>Education and Advocacy</em></p>

<li>Oversees design and implementation of national projects and campaigns. Involves Board members, chapters and e-activists in PSR&rsquo;s work to educate and advocate on climate change, energy, and related environmental health issues. <p>The Energy Systems program area is focused on decarbonizing the economy by enabling collaboration and problem solving among electric and natural gas utilities and market operators, regulators, environmental advocates, consumer advocates, state and local governments, businesses, and other key stakeholders.</p>
<p>We work with groups of state governor&rsquo;s offices and environmental and energy regulators to develop and implement decarbonization plans; within the Midcontinent Independent Systems Operator stakeholder process on market rules and the transmission build-out; with states, utilities, and other interests to align utility business models with an affordable, reliable, and net-zero greenhouse gas energy system; with states, local governments, and other key actors to bring down the implementation costs of net-zero greenhouse gas technologies and increase consumer demand for net-zero greenhouse gas resources.</p>

<p>This position will play a lead role in the Energy Systems program&rsquo;s work on utility and regulatory innovation for both electric and gas utilities. The goal of this work is to advance regulatory frameworks, utility business models, and utility initiatives that can support reducing greenhouse gas emissions while also addressing reliability, affordability, equity, safety, and a just transition.</p>
<p>In this work, GPI serves as a consultant to both utilities and utility regulators with stakeholder engagement, meeting facilitation, summarizing party comments, and general advising for complex regulatory proceedings or utility filings. In addition, GPI independently convenes groups of stakeholders to collaboratively develop solutions that can advance innovation among and decarbonization of electric and gas utility systems.</p>
<p>Importantly, GPI does this work as a neutral convener, facilitator, and advisor. Candidates for this position must have the ability to work with a variety of individuals and organizations that may have different perspectives from the candidate.</p>
<p>The ideal candidate will have experience as a meeting facilitator, knowledge of energy regulatory issues, and familiarity with organizations in this space. <li>Maintain knowledge about a variety of issues in the utility regulatory space, and throughout the states that GPI is working in.</li>

<h2>Overview</h2><p>NRDC is a non-profit environmental advocacy organization. We use law, science, and the support of 3.1 million members and online activists to protect the planet's wildlife and wild places and to ensure the rights of all people to clean air, clean water, and healthy communities. NRDC was founded in 1970 and our people helped write some of America's bedrock environmental laws, including the Clean Water Act and many of the implementing regulations. Today, our team of more than 700 lawyers, scientists, economists, policy advocates, communications experts, and others work across the United States and the globe from our offices in Beijing; Bozeman, Montana; Chicago; New Delhi; New York; San Francisco; Santa Monica; and Washington, D.C. </p><p> </p><p>NRDC is seeking a Writer, Editorial to work with the Communications Department in our New York City office. </p><p><strong>Position Summary</strong> </p><p>The Writer, Editorial will report to the Senior Editor and will be responsible for generating ideas for and writing NRDC.org explainer, news and feature content across science, health, and environmental issue areas and several distribution channels. This role will leverage their experience crafting thoughtful, engaging content for digital audiences (including consumers, students, and environmental activists) to reach and retain diverse readers across different platforms, thereby increasing awareness and understanding of NRDC’s issues to advance NRDC’s audience, policy, and advocacy goals. </p><h2>Responsibilities</h2><p>To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform the following essential functions: </p><ul> <li>Pitch, research, report and write content for various story verticals on NRDC.org, including scientific explainers and policy primers, day-two news stories, service journalism pieces, Q&amp;As, and other columns.  </li> <li>Harness SEO recommendations and analytics data to maximize the potential impact and reach of stories. </li> <li>Identify opportunities for and building infographic content (such as charts and tables) using Datawrapper and collaborate with multimedia team on scriptwriting for videos and other visual materials for editorial packages.  </li> <li>Pitch ideas for converting editorial into social content, and help to produce such content, such as explainer carousels and quizzes. </li> <li>Write for occasional partnership opportunities, such as influencer video scripts. </li> <li>Draft Google Grant ad copy for select editorial content.  </li> <li>Write select products for NRDC members, such as the Annual Report. </li></ul><p>The above list of duties is not comprehensive but generally demonstrates the types of matters under this position’s responsibility.
