Are you passionate about teaching young students and connecting them to nature? Do you love gardening or being outdoors?&nbsp;<a href="https://www.seiinc.org/" target="">SEI</a>&nbsp;is seeking emerging education professionals to join our&nbsp;<a href="https://www.climatecorps.org/cceo-fellowship.html">Climate Corps Education Outside</a>&nbsp;(CCEO) AmeriCorps cohort to advance science and eco-literacy in public elementary schools by activating school gardens as a learning laboratory for environmental education.
CCEO&rsquo;s program objectives are to:

<li>Spark children&rsquo;s interest in science</li>
<li>Increase children&rsquo;s environmental stewardship knowledge</li>
<li>Develop children&rsquo;s connection with the natural world</li>
<li>Improve children&rsquo;s attitude towards vegetables</li>
</ul>
CCEO is an&nbsp;11.5-month,&nbsp;full-time (40 hours per week)&nbsp;fellowship program starting on August 19th and concluding at the end of July. This program offers emerging environmental educators extensive professional development and training as they advance outdoor science education in Bay Area public schools. While we encourage Fellows to continue the Fellowship for a second term to provide a level of consistency to our school partners, it is not required.
As a CCEO Fellow, you will be placed at a public elementary school and serve as the garden educator of that site. Fellows teach 10-16 garden and science lessons per week on Mondays through Thursdays to students in grades K-5 in the on-campus outdoor garden classroom using the provided CCEO curriculum. Fridays are designated for cohort-wide training and site administration. You will also maintain the outdoor garden classroom and work to engage the larger school community in the space. As part of a cohort of approximately 30 CCEO Fellows, you will participate in a year-long training and professional development program designed to support you in your role. Over the summer, you will work to improve curriculum and program resources, maintain your outdoor classroom, and participate in other program projects. Work site locations include North/Western San Francisco, &nbsp;South/Eastern San Francisco, Northern San Mateo County, and Southern San Mateo County.
CCEO Fellows serve a high percentage of low-income children and many English-language learners. Fellows must be committed to social justice and have cultivated or be willing to cultivate a lens of cultural humility, intersectionality, and belonging. While the field of environmental education has a long way to go, we strive for equity and inclusivity for Fellows, program staff, schools, and students.
<h4>ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS</h4>
I. Learning &amp; Teaching Outdoors&nbsp;
CCEO Fellows provide garden-based lessons that help students practice science and connect to the natural world. As a CCEO Fellow, you will:
<ul>
<li>Prepare for and teach multiple lessons per day to various grade levels, which may include Special Day Classes</li>
<li>Create a safe and positive outdoor classroom culture</li>
<li>Apply a lens of cultural humility to all teaching and learning with students</li>
<li>Adapt and implement the provided CCEO curriculum for your school site</li>
<li>Collaborate with teachers to integrate indoor and outdoor learning experiences</li>
<li>Coordinate harvesting, cooking, and eating in the garden with students as part of your lessons</li>
</ul>
II. Outdoor Classroom Design&nbsp;
CCEO Fellows develop and maintain inviting, educational, and productive garden classrooms. As a CCEO Fellow, you will:
<ul>
<li>Collaborate with your school community to maintain and improve the school garden</li>
<li>Plant and maintain an edible vegetable garden</li>
<li>Plant and maintain perennial plants for student exploration and long-term garden habitat</li>
<li>Perform regular maintenance tasks such as weeding, watering, harvesting, and pest control</li>
<li>Develop garden infrastructure to support learning outcomes</li>
<li>Purchase garden supplies and instructional materials using the provided site budget</li>
</ul>
III. Community Engagement&nbsp;
CCEO Fellows build strong relationships with a diverse group of stakeholders, communicate about their work, and identify and support needs in the school community. As a CCEO Fellow, you will:
<ul>
<li>Represent and manage the Climate Corps Education Outside program at your school</li>
<li>Build strong relationships with community members to serve the needs of the school and students</li>
<li>Spread awareness of the program through conversations, presentations, photos, blogging, newsletters, bulletin board displays, etc.</li>
<li>Engage parent and community volunteers in the garden&nbsp;</li>
<li>Seek out grants and donations to support the garden space</li>
</ul>
IV. Professional Development&nbsp;
CCEO Fellows participate in bi-monthly program training sessions to support their growth as educators. As a CCEO Fellow, you will:&nbsp;
<ul>
<li>Attend and actively participate in training sessions focused on building your teaching, gardening, and community engagement skills</li>
<li>Engage in quarterly lesson observations with your Regional Supervisor to discuss and implement feedback</li>
</ul>
V. Site Administration&nbsp;
CCEO Fellows track data about program implementation at their school site, which is integral to demonstrating impact to funders. As a CCEO Fellow, you will support organizational data collection by:&nbsp;
<ul>
<li>Tracking and inputting individual student attendance</li>
<li>Tracking and inputting &nbsp;completed lessons with groups of students</li>
<li>Collecting and inputting data related to volunteer engagement and grantseeking</li>
<li>Administering pre- and post-student assessments at the beginning and end of the school year</li>
</ul>
<h4>COMPENSATION &amp; BENEFITS</h4>
<ul>
<li>A living allowance stipend of $3,092 per month (pre-tax amount), for a total stipend of up to $35,000 over 11.5 months.</li>
<li>An additional $10,000 education award upon successful program completion (comprised of the Segal Education award at $7,395 and the Californians For All Award at $2,605)</li>

PROJECT SUMMARY: &nbsp; America&rsquo;s forests are a critical natural climate solution. Reforestation/afforestation offers the most immediate and ample carbon removal solution. There are many opportunities for this in the U.S., with as much as 148 million acres suitable for reforestation (ReforestationHub.org). Yet, deployment of quality reforestation at scale has been limited by high upfront costs that are out of sync with the timeline for carbon removal.&nbsp;
American Forests&rsquo; Reforest America Carbon Program (RACP) is designed to address the financing challenges associated with reforestation/afforestation and advance the highest quality climate-adapted projects. Over the past year, American Forests has worked with landowners, forest carbon experts, carbon registries, and businesses to design RACP to help meet the country&rsquo;s growing reforestation needs.&nbsp;
We are currently developing a unique portfolio of climate-adapted reforestation projects with public land management agencies, Tribal Nations, and underserved private landowners who do not have access to the necessary funding to reforest severely burned lands in the western United States and other lands suitable for reforestation in other geographies throughout North America.
American Forests recently received a USFS grant to support the participation of federal recognized Tribal Nations, Native Hawaiian organizations and underserved private landowners, in emerging markets for resilient reforestation, or reforestation that is resilient to future climate changes and disturbances as well as future market and economic conditions. We are working to deliver the following outcomes: &nbsp;

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES The Senior Manager of Carbon Projects will oversee the origination, development, and implementation of carbon financed reforestation/afforestation projects that include traditional and new approaches. They will direct projects in partnership with corporate and other philanthropic funders and land managers including state and federal agencies, Tribal Nations, Native Hawaiian organizations and underserved private landowners; manage existing projects and partnerships and lead project execution; manage contractors and forestry consultants. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Carbon Project Development (85%)
<ul>
<li>Conduct outreach and work with Tribal Nations, Native Hawaiian organizations and underserved private landowners to assess opportunities to develop nature-based carbon projects in specific geographies and landscapes in the western US (OR, WA, CA, MT, NM) and Hawaii</li>
<li>Originate new projects with senior forestry staff by engaging with a broad range of stakeholders including Tribal Nations, underserved private landowners, consulting foresters, project developers, and NGOs, etc.</li>
<li>Conduct initial project due diligence including site evaluations and project assessments</li>
<li>Educate landowners on reforestation program requirements and carbon markets</li>
<li>Work with American Forest staff to complete carbon project feasibility assessments modeling forest growth and suitability for carbon project methodologies or commodity-embedded carbon benefit sale</li>
<li>Develop tree planting design, project budgeting, placing seedling orders, selecting and supervising contractors, overseeing planting, ongoing maintenance, and forest inventory</li>

Program Administration (15%) The Sr. Manager of Carbon Projects will be responsible for tracking and managing the development of a portfolio of carbon projects, develop and manage several projects simultaneously, develop associated work plans, track progress to program goals and manage time and resources appropriately. &nbsp;Participate in American Forests and Resilient Forest program actions and meetings as appropriate. &nbsp;Help develop and manage budgets in partnership with American Forests&rsquo; program and finance departments.
QUALIFICATIONS&nbsp; Successful candidates will have demonstrated experience in directing program development and implementation of nature-based carbon projects and while we do not expect any one candidate to possess all of these qualifications, the ideal candidate will possess many of the following professional and personal skills and qualities: &nbsp;&nbsp;

Unless you are already a member of the SES with career status or have successfully completed an SES Candidate Development Program certified by OPM, your executive qualifications must be approved by OPM before your appointment can be effected. Qualifications The application process used to recruit for this position is the RESUME BASED method. Mandatory Technical Qualifications (MTQs) listed later in this section below must be addressed in a separate narrative. EXECUTIVE CORE QUALIFICATIONS (ECQs): The five (5) ECQs described below were designed to assess executive-level experiences and potential not technical expertise. They measure whether you have the broad executive skills needed to succeed in a variety of SES positions. 1: Leading Change: Ability to bring about strategic change, both within and outside the organization, to meet organizational goals and establish an organizational vision and to implement it in a continuously changing environment. 2: Leading People: Ability to lead people toward meeting the organization's vision, mission, and goals and provide an inclusive workplace that fosters the development of others, facilitates cooperation and teamwork, and supports constructive resolution of conflicts. 3: Results Driven: Ability to meet organizational goals and customer expectations, and make decisions that produce high-quality results by applying technical knowledge, analyzing problems, and calculating risks. 4: Business Acumen: Ability to manage human, financial, and information resources strategically. 5: Building Coalitions: Ability to build coalitions internally and with other Federal agencies, State and local governments, nonprofit and private sector organizations, foreign governments, or international organizations to achieve common goals. MANDATORY TECHNICAL QUALIFICATIONS (MTQs): As part of your application package, a supplemental narrative must be uploaded addressing each MTQ listed below. No more than one (1) page per MTQ is allowed; additional informational information will not be considered. MTQs must provide specific examples that address relevant experience and accomplishments. You must reflect superior technical qualifications demonstrated through leadership and management in the following MTQs. Failure to submit a narrative statement addressing each of the MTQs may cause your application to be deemed incomplete and not be considered. MTQ 1: Describe your knowledge of, and executive level experience in managing in a multi-program, multiple customers, multiple fund source organization, with specific experience with nuclear energy, environmental liabilities, and national security (i.e. homeland, defense, intelligence). MTQ 2: Describe your experience in providing leadership in establishing and implementing measures to successfully manage and/or oversee large complex commercial and/or government enterprises with nuclear high hazard facilities; and skill to direct operations and maintenance for developing and maintaining safe, environmentally sound, and economical facilities to support national priorities. MTQ 3: Describe your ability to work effectively with a diverse group of stakeholders (general public; public interest groups; local, state, and national bodies; political delegations and staff; etc.) to achieve mutually acceptable solutions to complex and contentious issues. Education Degree: Engineering. A. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by ABET; or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. OR B. Combination of education and experience -- college-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying engineering, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering. The adequacy of such background must be demonstrated by one of the following: 1. Professional registration or licensure -- Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT)1 , or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico. Absent other means of qualifying under this standard, those applicants who achieved such registration by means other than written test (e.g., State grandfather or eminence provisions) are eligible only for positions that are within or closely related to the specialty field of their registration. For example, an applicant who attains registration through a State Board's eminence provision as a manufacturing engineer typically would be rated eligible only for manufacturing engineering positions. 2. Written Test -- Evidence of having successfully passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE)2 examination or any other written test required for professional You must provide a copy of your transcripts from an accredited institution. Be sure to include those transcripts directly applicable to determining your meeting the education requirements. Failure to provide proof of education will result in non-consideration for this position.
