The Role
ACP is seeking a Vice President, Investments (VP) as an integral member of ACP&rsquo;s global investing team. The VP will report to the Managing Director, Investments.&nbsp;
As a member of ACP&rsquo;s global investing team, the VP will contribute to all the steps of ACP&rsquo;s investment process in a collaborative fashion with other members of the team. This begins with fully understanding the challenges and opportunities in each region and/or sector by actively engaging with market participants and performing qualitative and quantitative market analysis leading to a proposed theory of change. Achieving net zero by mid century will require a deployment of clean energy technologies at a speed and scale which has no historical precedent, to shift from consumable fossil fuels to a highly electrified system based on durable metals.

The supply of critical minerals is one of the most acute bottlenecks for the energy transition. Although the world holds more than enough resources, current supply pipelines cannot meet the rapidly growing demand for batteries, renewables and the power grid.

This gap is particularly acute for copper, lithium, graphite, and rare earth elements, with demand surges of 1.5-6x by 2030. Nickel and cobalt will also face tensions but evolutions in battery chemistries may help alleviate them.

Methane is a very special greenhouse gas. Although it remains only 10 years in the atmosphere, its warming impact is 85x as high as CO2 on a 20-year time scale. Overall, it accounts for a third of the global temperature increase since the industrial revolution.

Rapid methane abatement is the biggest opportunity to mitigate near-term warming and prevent the triggering of dangerous climate tipping points. 
</div>

Enteric fermentation alone accounts from 30% of anthropogenic methane and 10% of greenhouse gas emissions. This digestive process occurs in the rumen, the stomach of ruminant animals (cattle, sheep, goats).

Various mitigation strategies have been proposed. Feed additives like 3NOP, bromoform, and seaweed can partially tackle enteric methane in feedlots, about 10% of cattle population. Capture systems could be a useful yet marginal solution. Methanogen vaccines would be transformative, but commensal microbes are proving insanely hard to deactivate.

Today no solution combines very high (&gt;80%) abatement rate, cost effectiveness, scaleability across geographies and agricultural systems, and safety, let alone positive increases on animal productivity.

To prevent the worst impacts of climate change, the world needs to reach net zero around mid century. This means two things: slash global emissions from 60 gigaton annual to near zero, and remove CO2 from the atmosphere on a multi gigaton scale.

The last IPCC report estimates that 5 to 16 gigaton of CDR will be required each year after 2050 to keep global temperature increase as close to 1.5&deg;C as possible. Reaching such levels in just a few decades is a herculean feat and will require many approaches.

Direct Air Capture is compelling due to is low physical footprint, flexible siting near CO2 storage and clean energy, and straightforward measurement. On the demand side, DAC benefits from massive tailwinds, such as a $3.5 billion scale up funding in the US, a first billion $ acquisition, and a fast growing market for CDR credits and carbon negative products (e.g. concrete).

However, first generation DAC technologies are very energy intensive due to the work required to separate CO2 from the sorbent. Current systems use 1,500 to 3,000 kWh per ton of CO2 - which is 10x to 20x higher than the theoretical minimum. At gigaton scale, such systems would require between 1/3 and 3/4 of the annual US power consumption.

We are developing a breakthrough process which tackles this problem, the most important to solve for gigaton scale DAC to become a reality.

We have developed a unique hybrid electrochemical process which is 10x more energy efficient than first generation DAC and 3x better than the most ambitious second generation technologies. At megaton scale, we estimate the cost per ton well below $100/ton.

Our approach uses only materials that are cheap, abundant, and stable under atmospheric conditions. We leverage components that will undergo rapid learning rates for cost decline as well as proven supply chains for mass manufacturability.
