The Role
With our flagship project in Sierra Leone underway, as well as several other country projects in the early stages, Blue is seeking a dynamic professional to take on the exciting and critical role of Mangrove Restoration Lead to lead in the development and implementation of a restoration and rehabilitation plan for severely damaged mangrove regions. The Mangrove Restoration Lead will be responsible for implementing the following core functions:

<li>Conduct rehabilitation assessments studies at multiple large-scale restoration sites</li>
<li>Develop and implement a detailed rehabilitation plan for the restoration efforts, with a focus on community-based ecological mangrove restoration techniques</li>
<li>Support smaller-scale restoration efforts within communities</li>
<li>Manage detailed budgets for restoration work</li>
<li>Train and manage local teams conducting restoration work</li>
<li>Implement work plan on time and on-budget</li>
<li>Regularly update and engage with, as well as provide written updates and reports to, the relevant West Africa Blue country teams</li>

The Candidate
The successful candidate will have the following qualifications and experience:

<li>Experience in conducting wetland assessments and providing appropriate recommendations for the restoration of mangrove habitats and related ecosystem services</li>
<li>Experience with designing and implementing hydrological alterations to mangrove sites associated with land agricultural use</li>
<li>Expertise in wetland ecology and knowledge of the policy frameworks as well as the scientific and technical underpinnings of the Convention on Wetlands</li>
<li>Experience in developing workplans and writing concise reports</li>
<li>Experience working in West Africa</li>

The Role
With several projects underway in the West Africa, Blue is seeking a dynamic professional to take on the exciting and critical role of ESG Manager to lead in the development and implementation of essential ESG systems and processes. The ESG Manager will join a dynamic team focused on conservation and restoration of some of the most threatened ecosystems within West Africa. This role will be responsible for providing ESG systems implementation, monitoring, and reporting support to West Africa Blue and its portfolio projects across West Africa. The responsibilities will also include discussions and reporting to internal and some external stakeholders to ensure key ESG risks are appropriately managed and compliance is maintained during project design, implementation and operations.
The ESG Manager will be responsible for implementing the following core functions:

<li style="text-align: justify;">Lead the implementation of a corporate level Environment and Social Management System in line with international standards including Climate, Community, and Biodiversity Standards (CCB) under Verra Verified Carbon Standard, IFC performance standard, WB/IFC EHS guidelines, and applicable laws.</li>
<li style="text-align: justify;">Establish and maintain reporting channels for ESG risk management and mitigation, including safeguards against anti-corruption and anti-bribery.</li>
<li style="text-align: justify;">Establish and maintain systems and processes to receive community complaints, concerns, and grievances related to projects. Maintain and manage efficient reporting and escalation channels for reporting and resolution, especially for safeguarding issues.</li>
<li style="text-align: justify;">Support and monitor the development and implementation of site-specific plans with project-level/regional E&amp;S coordinators and supervisors, as applicable. Coordinate with regional E&amp;S coordinators and supervisors to ensure all aspects of ESMS are implemented across relevant centres.</li>
<li style="text-align: justify;">Support in establishing internal ESG &amp; DI committee to address environmental, development impact and social/community and governance issues and coordinate and organize regular meetings. Ocean Ledger is a pioneering research spin-out set to change how marine conservation and restoration (local or national scale) are set up, validated, and monitored. Today, the primary mechanism to invest in marine conservation is through the blue carbon market. While there is signficant demand from governments and corporates, this is stifled by a lack of high-integrity projects due to key technical gaps. Project developers are cost-constrained, limiting the scale &amp; robustness of their projects, while private sector buyers lack the confidence &amp; assurance to invest.
Harnessing our unique technology development that combines earth observation, AI, and field data, Ocean Ledger can set a new standard for investable marine conservation by providing standardized, robust monitoring that aligns the needs of project developers, verifying bodies (i.e., Plan Vivo), and buyers. This technology was developed by our co-founder, Dimos Traganos, an expert in blue carbon remote sensing through a tech transfer project at the German Aerospace Center ($900K in funding). Our proprietary algorithms and framework have been trained by mapping 30 countries (306,000 sq km), and were successfully deployed in the Seychelles to help establish their nationally-determined contributions.
Our mission is to make it easier, faster, and cheaper for governments &amp; businesses to engage in high-quality marine conservation - through environmental stewardship or blue carbon financing. We envision a world where coastal ecosystems receive the attention they deserve by providing the tools and incentives.
<h3>What we do</h3>
We use technology to help project developers streamline the technical verification steps required at various stages in the process - from implementation to validation and annual reporting. We are building an end-to-end solution that provides them with tools to effectively collect data in the field, combine this with state-of-the-art remote sensing, and integrate this into project documentation and marketing tools. Starting with our proprietary coastal accounting software, we will pair this with field collection tools that will optimize and standardize the entire process. To scale our efforts, we are building a pipeline of buyers and local project operators, helping unlock $50bn in market demand. No one else has the niche expertise of combining remote sensing with marine ecology (across all ecosystem types) - it's our secret power and we're going to use it to be a first-mover in the space.

We are backed a Founders Factory accelerator and the leading commercial satellite data provider, Planet. We won our a contract in our first 2 months of operation - a seagrass restoration project in Spain. We have raised some pre-seed funding, and are looking to raise a seed round in Fall 2024 to build out a full-stack product, build a project pipeline, and expand the team. We have an experience team consisting of an ex-investment banker, a leading remote sensing academic, and a talented scientific engineer. Our advisors include the Head of Product at Array Labs, and the key architect of the Global Mangrove Watch. We work flexibly with a mix of remote working and the team coming together on a monthly basis.

<h3>Why you&rsquo;ll be a fundamental addition to the team:</h3>

The shipping industry is notoriously difficult to decarbonize, accounting for ~3% of global CO2 emissions. If it were a country, it would be the 6th largest emitter in the world (ranking just above Germany).
Recent global regulations from the International Maritime Organization require ships to reduce their CO2 emissions by 40% by 2030, but there are currently no clean solutions available for them to do so. Alternative power sources like hydrogen, ammonia, methanol, and onboard batteries are still 10-20 years away from maturity for large ships and energy efficiency solutions can only reduce 5-10% of CO2 emissions.
<h1>About Seabound</h1>

Seabound captures CO2 emissions from ships.
We are building a retrofittable device that traps the CO2 from a ship&rsquo;s exhaust gas. It has the potential to be one of the simplest, safest, and most affordable solutions for zero-emissions shipping.
To date, we have proven the concept on land and tested our capture device on a 3200 TEU container ship. We have secured 6 letters of intent from major shipowners to purchase our systems, raised ~$4.5M USD from top investors including Lowercarbon Capital and Y Combinator, and won a competitive grant from the UK government in the Clean Maritime Demonstration Competition. We are now recruiting a Research Engineer specializing in Chemistry to join our engineering team to help optimize and scale this new category of maritime climate tech.
<h1>Roles and responsibilities</h1>
&nbsp;
To support our mission of decarbonizing shipping, you will be the resident expert developing models for and simulating our carbon capture process, performing experimentation, process design, and techno-economic evaluation to drive the optimization of our chemical processes. We will rely on you to set the standard for analysis techniques and evaluation methodologies within Seabound, solving the toughest technology challenges along the way. Your work will directly prevent greenhouse gas emissions from entering the atmosphere and be instrumental in bringing the shipping industry to net zero.
What You&rsquo;ll Do:

Identify and evaluate technology improvement and optimisation approaches through literature review, expert interviews, analysis, process modeling and simulation
