The objective of my activity was to support the development of a site of Long-Term Social-Ecological Research (LTSER) in Argonne (France), through the preparation of an application form. I had to come into contact with the French work methodology for the development of social-ecological systems within the European LTER network and to understand the role of long-term research in the planning of such systems.
In my internship I had to work on urban and peri-urban horticulture and on Rio Melo river park design in the municipal district of Riccione, Italy.
The proposed activities were those of identifying free areas within the urban area of the Municipality of Riccione, capable of potentially being used as urban and peri-urban gardens. The objective of the internship was to suggest to the Administration a particular opportunity for land use, with a view to sustainable city development, thus favoring greater permeability of urban land and, at the same time, disadvantaging further land consumption in terms of construction. In addition, I was asked to design, through the support of the Sketchup program, the Rio Melo Agricultural Park. This project obviously had to have a purely orientation character for the management of this area, stimulating future activities towards the regeneration of the river system and the systematic organization of horticultural realities already strongly present in the territory.
