Dear Recruiting Department, I am a second-year law student at the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law writing to apply for a Legal Intern position with Climatebase for the Summer of 2021. After graduating from the San Jose State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy, I spent the following three years working as a legal assistant and paralegal hybrid within the corporate, construction defect, and judicial foreclosure legal spectrums. My lengthiest position, with Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP, afforded me both exposure and skills that will benefit me throughout my legal career. In addition to developing a sincere interest in corporate law, I learned how to research and write the law in an efficient, impactful way; work as part of a team; and communicate with my peers and superiors. I have a strong background in civil litigation and corporate transactions. My performance appraisal from Simpson Thacher, which I will readily provide in supplement to my application, shows my interest and ability in working on, and quickly building mastery of, a wide variety of topics. As a paralegal hybrid, my proficiency gave my superiors the confidence to both bill for my time as a paralegal and to designate me as the lead for the billing operations of a major client. This exposure was invaluable, as it provided me an opportunity to work with multiple departments, in several offices of the firm, while meeting strict deadlines. I came across your Legal Intern position by conducting independent research in the corporate mergers & acquisitions field, finding your job posting on LinkedIn, then specifically focusing on the details of your mergers & acquisitions practice available on the Climatebase website. I was immediately interested and found your Legal Intern to be an unparalleled opportunity. I believe it would provide an ideal circumstance to further develop the skills I began to learn at Simpson Thacher while simultaneously cultivating a more intimate understanding about substantive aspects of corporate transactions. I am delighted to apply for your Legal Intern position, and I would welcome the opportunity to interview or answer any questions you might have. I look forward to hearing from you. Thank you for your time and consideration. Sincerely, Matthew R. French

Virtual In-House Lawyer and Mediator
Bassins, Switzerland
Experienced business person, qualified lawyer and accredited mediator; Innosuisse accredited special coach for legal matters and a regular coach for Venturelab. I have a pragmatic, hands-on approach and strive for real harmony - the kind that sometimes needs to be fought for, not the “smile and brush problems under the carpet” kind. Having spent much of my career serving as in-house counsel for various multinationals, more recently I have set up my own business, serving as virtual in-house counsel for startups and SMEs. Together these experiences continue to give me an insider's view of the challenges facing businesses of all sizes. My work has meant plenty of travel which, in turn, has given me a deep practical understanding of how to bridge cultural differences across the world. Building on that experience, I solve problems by listening actively and reading between the lines, and handle sensitive situations with discretion.

I am a U.S.-qualified attorney with a background in international and environmental issues, including climate change, animal agriculture, soil health, maritime law, and emissions in the transportation sectors. In Fall 2019, I was awarded the 2020 Drapers Scholarship, a full-ride scholarship to complete a Master of Laws (LLM) degree at Queen Mary University of London. I am in process of completing the Energy and Natural Resources LLM, as it is my goal to focus my career on climate change policy at the federal and international levels. This ties into my background in international law and development, including a position at the United Nations International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia and the Mechanism of International Criminal Tribunals in the Hague, Netherlands. Additionally, I have completed extensive research and writing projects throughout the world, including in: Port Elizabeth, South Africa, to write an Honors Thesis on indigenous land rights; the Dominican Republic to advocate for educational funding; Italy to examine organized crime and the mafia; and Hiroshima, Japan, to attend the International Network of Universities Conference on Global Peace and Citizenship. For the past five years, I have researched extensively the greatest drivers of climate change and the immediate necessity of lowering greenhouse gases, protecting biodiversity, and reducing the reliance on animal agriculture and fossil fuels. I want to use my knowledge about these issues, as well as my legal background, to fervently pursue a career that focuses on addressing climate change through litigation, policy, and administrative advocacy. I am tenacious, driven, detail-oriented, and I learn quickly.

Young Graduated Corporate Lawyer â–Ş Seeking New Opportunity Related to Climate Change & Sustainability
Brussels, 1200, BE
As I have just graduated with a Master’s degree in Law from UCLouvain (Belgium), I am looking forward to starting a career that would fulfil all the aspirations I developed during my years as a student. Over the course of my final year, I realised that I wanted to achieve something with greater purpose and hence to apply the knowledge I had gained so that I could be part of the answer to climate change, which concerns me a lot. I reached the climax of my reflection when I was writing my thesis. The purpose of the latter was to identify which European tax reform could make a difference from an environmental point of view. Before coming to the conclusion that a carbon added tax would be the most efficient option, I had the opportunity to immerse myself in the existing environmental agreements, from the first IPCC report to the Paris Agreement as well as from the EU-ETS creation to the new Green Deal. The emerging awareness about the climate condition I noticed during my research comforted me, but the discrepancy that nevertheless exists between what is stated in these agreements and what is accomplished in reality puzzled me. This is the reason why I would like to seize the chance to work with people wishing to have an impact on the current situation and willing to share their knowledge on this topical subject.

Civil Rights Investigator
Swartz Creek, Michigan, 48473, US
While I currently work in civil rights and higher education, I find the focus of my personal interests drifting toward preparing for the policy and legal changes necessary to keep society functioning during the climate crisis. I am interested in work or volunteer positions addressing climate-related issues, especially concerns relating to the needs of climate migrants and sustainability in areas likely to see in-bound migration. I live in Michigan, where we have abundant natural resources and quite likely an ethical duty to prepare to welcome migrants.
