Through a wide range of experience and an interest in several concepts across many fields I have developed my passion for fighting climate change and putting all the effort I have into reversing its negative effects. Though I have gifts in mathematics and technology, I greatly value working on a team and within my community, fighting not only climate change but against all social justice issues currently plaguing society. I am pursuing a climate related internship for summer 2021 with a diverse, open-minded interest in anything from GIS, computer and data science, carbon sequestration, regenerative agriculture, to the communication and policy that may be intertwined within any project or mission.

My name is Felipe Barcia, I am a mechanical engineer with more than four years of industry experience. I have had the opportunity to work in a number of interdisciplinary teams involved in sales, project management, process improvement, customer service, and applications engineering. Through these teams I have had the opportunity to cultivate a broad array of skills which I utilize in my current position and have been critical in my development as an engineer . In every position I have held I have been able to meet and exceed the expectations of my supervisors and have worked exceedingly well with both my team members and customer stakeholders.  I am now trying to move my skills towards a sustainable career to make a positive impact in my community and the world as a whole.

I am in my final semester at Georgia Tech with a major in Economics and International Affairs, a minor in Global Development, and concentration in Spanish. I have expanded my understanding of sustainability by working on eco-farms in the Israel, the West Bank, and North Carolina, volunteering with Trees Atlanta (my local urban forestry non-profit). I have engaged in global development initiatives around the world by participating in a language immersion study abroad in Cusco, Peru, and exploring non-profit work in Tel Aviv, Israel, and currently through my work with a global development-focused social enterprise called Rise up & Care as the Impact Campaign Coordinator.

I am a first-generation student attending the University of Nebraska at Omaha in the class of 2022. Raised and inspired by handicapped parents, I found my path being formed around social entrepreneurship. I am a graduated Environmental Scientist, and I am currently doing my Master’s in Climate Change Studies at Copenhagen University. I have two years of environmental risk/impact and environmental prosecution experience, besides five years in scientific research and methodology. My main areas are sustainability, environmental education, and climate change issues.

As a change leader, I'm the most comfortable when my team is tasked with blazing a new trail in uncharted terrritories; I thrive on the creative possibilities of having no recipe to follow. Growing up in Latin America, I've understood thriftiness as a survival trait and learned to roll with the unexpected punches.
