I am a storyteller, a dreamer and a creator. I have studied journalism, communication and environmental studies for the past four years at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. I will graduate in May 2021 with experience in editing, writing, photography, multimedia, documentary videography, social media and visual storytelling. I have published work for UNL's newspaper, the Daily Nebraskan, my college's website, News Net Nebraska and for my two internships. Currently, I am social media intern for a sustainable organization through UNL called Platte Basin Timelapse and a communications specialist for UNL's Department of Educational Administration. For both positions, I do more than just post to social media, I am their chief communicator, a writer, a curator, an editor, a graphic designer, and anything else I can be to strengthen their brand and tell their story. As I said, I am a storyteller and I know how to tell a good one.

Motivated design professional, educator and administrator with 15+ years of experience creating interactive and accessible experiences that change   behavior, while also leading a global grassroots group focused on improving corporate sustainability practices.  

  Patrick has worked hard to help push forward the climate adaptation and resilience fields through his professional and volunteer work, and would love to share his expertise and learn from others. Patrick firmly believes that climate and sustainability are the defining challenges of our age and are both the greatest threats and greatest opportunities for human civilization.  Patrick has of late focused on the question of “where will people go?”, from individual home buyouts to large-scale movements of population due in part to climate change, and is also very interested in questions such as applying foresight and futures methods to charting paths forward in sustainability and climate adaptation as well as the impact of emerging technologies and the human aspects of how our civilization will adapt to the challenges ahead. For more than 15 years, Patrick worked his way up through the environmental and regulatory fields, managing progressively more prominent projects and programs for various U.S. Federal agencies.   Before that, he was an information technology professional working with both large companies and small start-ups, gaining a great deal of expertise and comfort with data analysis and management and applying it to real-world problems. Patrick has a great deal of experience in a range of environments, from the public sector to private industry.  Currently, in addition to my other work, Patrick has assumed leadership roles in the climate adaptation space. Patrick founded the American Society of Adaptation Professionals’ Climate Migration and Managed Retreat Member Interest Group and coordinates monthly webinars with experts from a range of fields. He also serves on the leadership of the Climigration Network and has done volunteer work for several years with the Thriving Earth Exchange’s Resiliene Dialogues and Community Science programs.  Patrick earned a master’s degree in marine affairs and environmental management from the University of Washington and a bachelor’s degree in decision sciences from Georgia State University. He is a member of the American Planning Association’s American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) with advanced specialty certification as a Certified Environmental Planner. Patrick has completed several professional certification programs and continuing education courses, including on the National Environmental Policy Act and coastal and marine spatial planning, and intends to complete the professional certificate in foresight from the University of Houston later this year.  Patrick has appeared on several podcasts and has been both a contributing and lead author on several published papers.
