The OVO Group’s purpose is to drive progress towards net zero carbon living. To reach Plan Zero, we need everyone to come together - not just as customers buying energy, but as members with a common goal. As part of this ambitious plan, our goal is to become the ‘Best Employer in the UK’ by 2030. If you think you could be the talent we’re looking for, then come and join the adventure!

Where in the world of OVO will I be working?

You will be joining the Technology team in OVO Home Services, an OVO brand which includes CORGI HomePlan and SSE Home Emergency Services.

OVO Home Services is a successful Insurance and maintenance company, seeking to become the leader for energy insurance and installations that help our members decarbonise their homes.  We serve 360,000 households and are continuing to grow!  We challenge the status quo and strive to provide better quality and pricing of home plan cover to consumers across the UK.

Here at OVO Home Services, we believe that everybody has the right to a warm and comfortable home. We believe insurance should be fairly priced, fuss-free, with quick resolution times provided by trusted local engineers.

OVO Home Services is at a time of significant technological investment and growth. The current technology platform is undergoing a major overhaul that already started last year, as we build additional capabilities and features from the ground up.  Our ambition is to build the next generation of insurance platforms, that is at the forefront of user experience, creating best-in-class journeys for both our customers and our staff.

Is this the job for me?

As an Insurance company, OVO Home Services is regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) which brings a strong focus on data, billing and document accuracy.  The role will lead the QA function which is therefore critical to ensuring our customer data is correct, our billing is exact and the documents that our customers receive are accurate.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Own all QA processes, tools, execution and results for OVO Home Services
  • Evolve and grow our existing automated testing framework
  • Define and own the processes for end-to-end and integration testing
  • Work with our Software and Production Engineers to expand and enrich our integrated automated tests as part of our CI/CD pipeline, which is already integrated with our Azure and AWS estates
  • Lead a team of SDET Automation and manual QAs across UK and nearshore
  • Mentor Software Engineers on writing automation tests in addition to implementing new features, on our journey towards TDD
  • Improve test reporting and standards.  Increase observability of test results using for example Grafana or our in-house log warning systems from automation test results

You’re the right person for us if...

We are looking for excellent engineers and whilst experience is important, what we value is your attitude and passion.

It would be excellent if you have proven experience with:

  • Leading automation testing on new projects and setting up automation frameworks from the ground up
  • Spearheading an automated testing framework, with strong experience with producing test tooling and writing test automation scripts from scratch
  • Automation testing of Web-based applications, Web-services and APIs and/or cloud-based platforms
  • Familiarity with E2E testing including setup and configuration (e.g. Cypress, Selenium, CodedUI, Protractor)
