Where in the world of OVO will I be working? 

Working within the OVO Finance Team, you'll be reporting to the Head of Group Tax.

Overall, as a Finance Team, we’re responsible for ensuring accuracy, optimising processes and systems, simplifying reporting and driving performance to deliver the most effective returns on capital.

It’s an exciting time to join the team following OVO’s acquisition of SSE Retail as we’re integrating both businesses, working to deliver an outstanding One Finance service.

 

What will I be doing?

You will be supporting the Senior Indirect Tax Manager to develop and implement the VAT controls and processes for the OVO Group of companies.  

This role will take ownership for ensuring our indirect tax compliance obligations are met and also provide support to the business on commercial matters as required.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring the timely and accurate preparation and filing of VAT returns and other indirect tax submissions
  • Review of the VAT balance sheet accounts, perform reconciliations and lead any required accounting input.  
  • Ensure all indirect tax processes are compliant and that risks and opportunities are identified and raised to senior management
  • Working with the wider Finance Team to raise awareness of  indirect tax issues 
  • Regular review of the Group’s Partial Exemption position
  • Assist with continuously improving systems and controls, including ensuring the business follows the requirements of Making Tax Digital
  • Assisting the Senior Indirect Tax Manager in partnering with the business to provide VAT advice on commercial initiatives and business operations, including but not limited to business promotions, new products/bundled products, and arrangements entered into with third parties. 
  • Assist with correspondence and interaction with HMRC, including dealing with queries on VAT return submissions and preparation for VAT audits/visits
  • Keeping tabs on legislative developments and emerging risks which will affect the group

You're a self-starter and excellent teammate with a collaborative, pragmatic approach. You'll have excellent indirect tax technical knowledge, be ACA or CTA qualified and even better if you've had in-house experience in a consumer facing business. 

Ideally you will have:

  • Understanding of systems and experience of working with wider teams to make process improvements.
  • An ability to prioritise workload and keep to deadlines
  • Strong spreadsheet skills (both Excel & Google Sheets) to deal with large sets of data
  • An ability to communicate (verbally and in writing) and present tax information to non tax colleagues with clarity.  
  • An ability to build relationships with a wide range of internal partners raise the profile of the tax team within the organisation.
