Job Description

At OVO there are two jobs to be done.  Job #1 is building a set of outstanding customer journeys for our core product of Energy supply and Home Services.  This is happening across all our brands which include OVO Energy, SSE Energy Services, Boost and Corgi.  It is critical for our commercial success and also to build a large membership base to help with job #2.   Job #2 is innovating for a decarbonised future.  We are finding ways to empower and engage the consumer in the route to net zero which we believe is essential to make sure the cost of the energy transition doesn’t fall on the the poorest members of society.

We’re looking for a leader to help shape our consumer product offering across all of our brands. We’re a business that has both digital and physical propositions. In this role, you’ll be responsible for overseeing our product strategy & roadmap for all consumer interfaces and consumer products, and leading a team who are developing both the core digital products for the energy and home services customer journey and also a series of more innovative products in Smart Home and in Drive which support the move to a decarbonised lifestyle for all our members.

What you’ll do:

You will be responsible for ensuring an overall product strategy and roadmap for the OVO Go-To-Market function that is technically feasible, commercially viable and meets the needs of our customers. Your team deeply understands the needs of our business and our customers, is able to take a data led view, and reflects these needs in any product plans.

You’ll put in place ways of working that ensure the smooth operational running of your area, removing blockers and empowering cross-functional product teams to do their best work. We encourage teams to be strongly aligned to their cross-functional commercial owner but your leadership will provide a strong and consistent framework for outstanding product management and you will act as a critical arbiter on resource allocation across different streams of work.

You’ll be on point for key relationships with external and internal “vendors”.  Kaluza is our sister business unit who provides our underlying billing platform.  Establishing a robust working model with Kaluza to ensure correct prioritisation is critical for this role.

OVO has multiple brands and platforms.   A key part of the next couple of years will be simplifying our technology estate and, in some cases, simplifying our brand architecture.  Several platform migrations are in progress or are imminent and strong product leadership will be needed.  This will happen in partnership with Kaluza product leaders and product leaders in our operations function (who own non-customer facing products such as agent tooling, payments systems and fieldforce technologies.)

You’ll be able to take a data driven approach that allows us to test, learn, and iterate.

You will also hire, coach and develop your team, encouraging good stakeholder relationships, effective prioritisation decisions, and transparent roadmaps.

Your performance is both measured by the impact of the products you and your team launch that solves real customer and business needs and your ability to shape, lead and inspire a high-performing team.

In this role you will report to the Chief Commercial Officer.

Responsibilities of the role:

  • Providing clear vision and overall 3+ year product strategy for Retail based on known customer/business requirements
  • You deeply understand our business and our customers, so whatever products we produce, they delight and retain and come to life through all our customer touchpoints
  • Accountable for performance of our products, delivery of new features, and eNPS of your team
  • Ensuring a close working relationship, alignment and effective decision making across multiple functions forming our cross functional teams e.g. engineering, data, CX, operations and field services
  • Being an ambassador for Retail externally relating to our product roadmap and plans
  • Providing context for Retail strategic decisions and investments, bringing a data led lens
  • Providing commercial insight and owning budget for your area
  • Taking proactive ownership of initiatives that relate to product leadership, culture and ways of working
  • Mentoring and developing team members

From us you’ll get* (add/delete as appropriate for the role/brand)

  • An annual discretionary bonus
  • 4% of your salary to spend on flexible lifestyle benefits
  • 5% matched employer contribution to your pension
  • 25 days holiday + 1 for your birthday
  • And many more...

(*) Please note that certain benefits kick-in once you have passed probation which can be up to 6 months after your start date.
