Where in the world of OVO will I be working?

Through this growth OVO has expanded the OVO Team across multiple locations, and acquired some exciting businesses, including SSE Retail, each with their own office, field and manufacturing operations. Decarbonisation of our members' homes and enabling zero carbon living are among our highest priorities, and with our expanding business divisions and increasing activity in customers’ homes, we’re looking to the Field Operations Technical Compliance team who retain responsibility for our safe working practices, industry standards and accreditations.

What will I be doing?

Working alongside our Policy & Strategy Manager, the Home Heat Installation Lead will be the nominated and competent person under micro generation accreditation (MCS) to deliver the quality assurance frameworks behind the installation of air source and ground source heat pumps. They will also be responsible for supporting us on our journey to obtain and deliver the MCS accreditation requirements, lead our field operations teams through a diversification program on the upskill of engineers and perform the quality supervision of installations against industry requirements.

Key responsibilities:

  • Act as the nominated competent person within the areas of plumbing, electrical, heating and refrigeration for the basis of installation of heat pumps 
  • Assume responsibility for the installation and commissioning of the installation of heat pumps within the areas of electricity, heating, plumbing and refrigeration (possibly solar PV / battery if qualifications permit)
  • Act as an enabler, seeking ways to deliver against OVO core strategies & goals
  • Act as lead person for our operational MCS accreditation, conducting site inspections and audits, representing the interests of business, and be the primary contact for technical support and compliance.
  • Acting as OVO Operations expert for all aspects of installation activity, new products and services
  • Support the development of all necessary policies, procedures and processes so that Ovo Metering is accredited by the necessary bodies to fulfil its duties, and ensure its metering systems are designed, installed and maintained safely and in compliance with all relevant regulations, standards and codes of practice
  • Understand quality requirements from external accreditation bodies and map existing capabilities to highlight gaps that need to be filled
  • Design and deliver a QA framework around installations and our ways of working to keep our customers and our engineers safe
  • Development of a technical and safety auditing process to ensure that compliance is achieved with agreed industry and legal standards and procedures and opportunities for continuous improvement are identified and incorporated
  • Promoting a culture of continual improvement, with a drive to seek out and implement best practice
  • Maintaining presence on relevant industry bodies and advisory boards so that Ovo is represented and its knowledge base is current and informed on future developments
  • Support the company to ensure we are working as effectively as possible to keep up with competitors and secure external recognition of our progress and performance
  • A willingness and ability to travel with some occasional overnight stays

Is this the job for me? 

The individual must have a some experience of delivering home heat installation of heat pumps and extensive experience and understanding of leading on health and safety and quality of installs. Ideally, they would have audit experience within the MCS regulated environment and be familiar with the industry and applicable regulatory and obligatory requirements. The individuals should be confident, flexible in approach, dynamic in their thinking and prepared to challenge conventional ways of working.

Essential skills & experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years experience of delivering home heat installation of heat pumps. (Solar PV / Battery storage advantageous)
  • Extensive knowledge and expertise skill set in plumbing, heating, electrical and refrigeration around the installation of heat pumps
  • Knowledge of the building & CDM regulations
  • To be fully qualified to perform the installation of heat pumps : A Level 2 or Level 3 NVQ or SVQ in plumbing / heating & ventilation / gas / oil – Installation and Maintenance qualification, A valid Core Gas Safety (CCN1) certificate (must be involved in the installation of heating systems), an OFTEC Oil certificate and a valid HETAS certificate
  • Extensive experience managing external accreditations, licenses & competencies
  • Experience of setting and running technical governance frameworks, audit and assurance standards processes and policies ● Significant experience of providing technical safety advice within a large, complex organisation
  • Experience of introducing policies, procedures, processes and systems effectively; and enabling positive cultural change
  • A proven track record of developing productive relationships with a variety of stakeholders and capable of influencing at all levels ● Experienced in contract management and contractor safety

Desirable skills & experience:

  • A Health & Safety accreditation e.g IOSH / NEBOSH
  • Experience of representing at industry forums
  • Experience on implementing and managing micro generation accreditation frameworks 
  • Advantageous to have experience of energy generation and storage systems such as sola V and battery storage.
