Purpose Driven Position


We are seeking a  driven and experienced Senior Manager to join the CarbonCure Research and Development (R&D) team to lead the laboratory activities with the intent to further the development of CarbonCure’s various technologies. The candidate will have the primary responsibility to plan, prioritize, and execute research projects, troubleshoot customer issues, supervise a team of researchers and co-op students, and work with the leadership team to ensure the overall success of CarbonCure. Activities are in support of CarbonCure’s mission to achieve 500 megatonnes of annual CO2 emissions reductions through the industry standardization of CO2 utilization in concrete production.


About you


The successful candidate has experience working in a concrete laboratory environment and has strong technical knowledge of cement and concrete, chemistry and chemical analyses, a high attention to detail, and an appetite for innovation. This is a team environment where collaboration and communication skills are critical to facilitate teamwork with cross functional work groups.


What you'll need to succeed 


  • A passion for sustainability and addressing climate change.
  • Master’s level or higher University degree in Civil Engineering (preferred), Environmental or Chemical Engineering.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a concrete materials lab with ability to manage a team
  • Strong knowledge of cement chemistry, cement hydration, cement-admixture interactions, and concrete properties and performance.
  • Knowledge of CO2 reaction kinetics, advanced analytical techniques, and advanced data analysis tools will be an asset.
  • Strong analytical skills, and proven experience in designing and execution of experiments to test clearly stated research hypotheses.
  • Strong planning abilities with an attention to deadlines and ability to articulately report against stated goals.
  • An ability to work as part of an interdisciplinary team in a fast-paced research environment.
  • Excellent writing, presentation, time management and communication skills.
  • Creative mind, with an eagerness to turn new process concepts into practice and to demonstrate their technical feasibility.
  • Strong organizational skills and multi-tasking abilities to be able to lead the operations of a customer lab.
  • Natural inclination to think outside the box.
  • Motivated, energetic team player that enjoys an entrepreneurial, collaborative work environment.


    What you'll be doing


    • Technical oversight of the customer laboratory, including communications with customer-facing teams and other cross-functional departments, materials logistics, scheduling, results reporting, and budget.
    • Responsible for the development of a Quality Management System that meets the requirements for AASHTO Laboratories Accreditation, including the maintenance of calibration and certification of all laboratory equipment.
    • Collaborate with the research team in the identification, formulation, and conduction of research projects.
    • Provide technical guidance and support to the researchers, engineers,  and co-op students.
    • Develop templates and technical reporting formats.
    • Compile and present results to internal and external stakeholders.
    • Author standard operating procedures and training for laboratory users.
    • Support the development, validation, and implementation of new testing procedures.
    • Make creative and innovative recommendations for future research efforts based on observations, data and knowledge.
    • Identify other areas for opportunity and propose research projects aligned with company goals


    Work Environment 


    • Working in a concrete laboratory environment
    • Strong level of independence in the role with a focus on progress and results
    • Comply with Health, Safety, and Environmental policies and procedures appropriate for the laboratory
    • Salary range $92,000 - $110,000.
