Job Description – Technical Architect

Location: Remote (USA) (Must be located IN the USA)

About ChargeScape

The U.S. is on track for 50% of all new vehicle sales in 2030 to be electric – but our power grid was not built to withstand this level of electricity demand, and charging remains a pain point for drivers. With over 80% of EV charging occurring at home, ChargeScape was formed by some of the world’s largest automakers (BMW, Ford, and Honda – with more joining soon) with the mission to enable everyone to access sustainable, affordable energy from a reliable power grid.

ChargeScape’s software platform serves as the connective tissue between EV drivers and power utilities, using cloud-based commands to schedule EV charging for the most grid-friendly, low-carbon hours all while putting money back in drivers’ wallets. We recently launched with a founding team of executives with over a decade of experience in EV charging software, and are looking to make one of our first hires for a critical leadership position.

THE ROLE

As a Technical Architect specializing in cloud technologies, you will play a key role in building and scaling ChargeScape's platform. You will be hands-on in designing, developing, and implementing key architectural components that power our cloud-native solution. Reporting directly to the CTO, you will work closely with engineering teams to ensure our platform meets the technical and performance requirements of the business.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Lead hands-on development and implementation of cloud-native applications leveraging AWS services and open-source technologies.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to design and deliver scalable, secure, and reliable cloud-based solutions.
  • Engage in coding and technical troubleshooting, ensuring architectural integrity while driving best practices.
  • Design and build out the CI/CD pipelines and champion DevOps principles for continuous integration, testing, and deployment.
  • Utilize containers and container orchestration (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes) to ensure application scalability, flexibility, and portability across environments.
  • Act as a technical mentor to engineers, guiding them in cloud technology implementations and helping solve complex development challenges.
  • Stay hands-on with AWS services such as EC2, Lambda, RDS, IAM, DynamoDB, and others to ensure optimal cloud utilization.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders, including the Head of Product, OEMs, and the leadership team, to ensure technical solutions align with business needs.
  • Work in an Agile development environment, coordinating sprints, delivering on deadlines, and adapting to changing priorities.
  • Translate product requirements into actionable, scalable, and efficient technical solutions.
  • Participate actively in architecture reviews, code reviews, and other activities that contribute to building a high-quality, high-performance platform.

THE CANDIDATE

The Ideal Candidate:

  • 7+ years of hands-on experience in software development and cloud architecture.
  • Proven track record of building and scaling cloud-native applications on AWS, with a strong emphasis on direct technical involvement.
  • Hands-on experience with a variety of AWS services, particularly EC2, Lambda, RDS, DynamoDB, IAM, and serverless architectures.
  • Strong understanding of security best practices for SaaS solutions, especially securing PII data.
  • Proficiency in microservices architecture and container orchestration platforms such as Kubernetes.
  • Practical experience in event-driven architecture and serverless computing.
  • Extensive knowledge of continuous integration and delivery (CI/CD) and DevOps principles, with demonstrated success in applying them.
  • Experience working in an Agile environment, coordinating with stakeholders like the Head of Product, OEMs, and the leadership team to deliver business-aligned solutions.
  • Strong collaboration skills with cross-functional teams, with the ability to translate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • AWS certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect, AWS Certified DevOps Engineer) are a plus.
  • Experience in a fast-growing startup or similar dynamic environment, with a focus on getting things done hands-on.
  • Proficient in programming languages such as Python, Java, and node.js with strong experience in building scalable applications.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field.

THE OPPORTUNITY

We will be able to offer you:

  • A competitive salary and bonus, with total cash compensation of $200,000 – $250,000 per year;
  • A comprehensive benefits package including healthcare, 401(k) and unlimited PTO;
