Job Description

This role is responsible for leading X-energy's strategy and relationship-building efforts in states that have been selected or are potential candidates for deployment of our plants and facilities. Initial focus includes Tennessee, Texas, Washington, Maryland, Virginia and other states driven by business or business potential. The role will engage with state and local stakeholders developing and fostering strong connections to local political and economic development communities. The individual will use their expertise in energy policy, particularly nuclear energy, to drive impactful outcomes for the organization.


 

Job Profile Tasks/Responsibilities

  • Develop and oversee comprehensive state government affairs strategies outreach implementation plans for relevant states that align with the company’s overall business objectives and growth goals.
  • Cultivate and maintain high-level relationships with local and state regulatory agencies, and economic development leaders and government officials
  • Serve as the company’s senior representative for state and local government matters, ensuring effective communication and alignment with stakeholders.
  • Analyze and interpret policy, legislative and regulatory developments related to energy, with a focus on nuclear energy issues and assess their impact on the company’s current and future business.
  • Proactively provide executive-level insights and recommendations to guide the company’s policy positions and strategic priorities.
  • Support Business Development as needed.
  • Collaborate with customers, potential customers, industry groups, coalitions, and other stakeholders to build support for shared policy goals.
  • Support federal government related activities as needed to ensure adequate coverage.
  • Identify opportunities to strengthen the company’s presence within local communities by engaging with economic development organizations and fostering partnerships.
  • Represent the company at industry events, public forums, and conferences to support business opportunities and enhance credibility and visibility.
  • Collaborate across internal teams to align government affairs efforts with the company’s operational and business strategies.
  • Mentor and provide guidance to junior government relations staff, if applicable.
  • Travel regularly to states based on business interests, with particular focus on Texas, Tennessee, Washington and Virginia.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to ethical and transparent activities in all engagements.
  • Maintain professional demeanor and behavior at all times in all forms of communication.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by manager.

Job Profile Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in political science, public policy, law, or a related technical field.
  • Typically, fifteen years of general work experience.
    • A minimum of seven years of progressive experience in government relations and/or policy, with significant state-level expertise can be in lieu of fifteen years of general work experience.
  • Experience engaging with state government and local communities, particularly in Tennessee, Texas, Washington, and Virginia.
  • Strong understanding of state level energy policy and the regulatory environment, with expertise in nuclear energy.
  • Familiarity with federal legislative processes and implementing community and stakeholder outreach plans in the target states.

Location: 530 Gaither Road, Rockville, MD
Work Site Expectations: at least 3 days per week in office

Travel Expectations: up to 20% as needed

Hours: standard office schedule are 8:00am-5:00pm ET Mon-Fri

Compensation

As required by Maryland and other applicable state law, X Energy, LLC (X-energy) lists the expected compensation range for a publicly advertised job opportunity based upon the job requirements (e.g. education/training, experience, skill sets, etc.).  Individual candidates who meet the job requirements for the posted position will be offered a salary within this range based on their respective levels of education/training, experience, and other qualifications unique to them.  Salary ranges may vary based on the specific office location and region referenced in the posting to take into consideration differences in cost of living and may not be reflective of all regions.  Please note that compensation ranges listed for US job postings reflect base salary only and do not include benefits or other incentives. 

A reasonable estimate for this position at the level of experience required is:

$139,500- $193,750
