Job Description
About Deep Sky: Deep Sky is on a mission to accelerate the world's transition to carbon removal by developing and operating direct air capture (DAC) facilities. Our state-of-the-art plant in Innisfail will play a crucial role in capturing CO₂ directly from the atmosphere, helping combat climate change on a global scale. Join us in this groundbreaking journey to achieve net-zero.
Job Overview: We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join Deep Sky's R&D Engineering Team onsite in Los Angeles, CA to design, analyze, prototype, and build mechanical and structural systems. The ideal candidate will be capable of performing detailed mechanical analysis (loads, CFD, thermal), create CAD and manufacturing drawings, and build and fabricate integrated mechanical systems to help create a world-class, commercial-scale Direct Air Carbon Capture facility. If you have a passion for building robust systems, solving complex engineering challenges, and working hands-on, and are not afraid to fail, we’d love to hear from you.
Key Responsibilities
- Own mechanical system from conceptual design through production build, including thermal systems, mechanisms, primary and secondary structures, pressure vessels, valves, and associated interconnects.
- Rapidly iterate in design space to quickly steer high level systems trades and direction of the mechanical systems in order to develop the design criteria and collaborate on requirements.
- Build math and analysis models to verify initial design assumptions.
- Establish vendor relationships and healthy supply chain through each prototyping step through final integration.
- Perform environmental and performance testing on hardware to validate analysis and requirements.
- Lead multidisciplinary root cause investigations and component redesigns to improve reliability and production rate.
- Demonstrate extreme ownership of product outcomes at every stage of development and production
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical , aerospace, propulsion, or chemical engineering, physics or other related STEM discipline
- 2+ years of engineering design experience (internships, student projects, extracurricular project experience, and professional experience qualify)
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Ability to work in a fast paced, autonomously driven, and demanding atmosphere
- Ability to assess risk and make design and development decisions without all available data
- Hands-on experience with mechanical design, prototyping, integration, and mechanical assembly
- Proficiency with mechanical CAD software like Solidworks, NX, or similar.
- Proficiency with one or more analysis software to perform loads, CFD, and/or thermal analysis
- Self-motivated, strong multi-tasking, organizational, communication, and documentation skills
- Experience working effectively across multi-disciplinary teams
Additional Requirements
- Willing to work extended hours and weekends as necessary
- Some travel required
Why Join Deep Sky? Be part of a mission-driven team focused on fighting climate change. Work with cutting-edge technology in a dynamic and innovative environment. Competitive compensation and benefits package. Opportunities for growth and professional development.
