Job Description

This role is responsible for leading and managing the engineering execution of nuclear power system products through all phases of development and production maturity. The Product Engineering Manager establishes and oversees engineering processes, methodologies, and capabilities required for successful product realization, while ensuring compliance with nuclear industry standards and regulatory requirements. They serve as the bridge between development and production, focusing on manufacturability, sustainability, and technical excellence throughout the product lifecycle.


 

Job Profile Tasks/Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and manage a team of engineers responsible for product development and realization of nuclear hardware while establishing engineering standards, processes, and best practices across the organization.
  • Drive technical decision-making that balances product requirements, manufacturability, and sustainability while ensuring compliance with nuclear quality assurance requirements and regulatory standards.
  • Coordinate with engineering disciplines to establish resource requirements and manage matrix relationships to support product development needs.
  • Develop and implement manufacturing strategies that support the transition from development to production, including processes, work instructions, and quality control procedures.
  • Lead manufacturing technology development initiatives and continuous improvement programs throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Guide the organization through key maturity phases: foundation, growth, manufacturing development, and production operations.
  • Manage product engineering resources, budgets, and timelines across multiple product lines and projects while ensuring successful delivery of work products on schedule and within budget.
  • Oversee engineering design, analysis, and testing activities to ensure technical requirements are met.
  • Implement and maintain robust design control procedures and configuration management systems.
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate technical risks throughout the product lifecycle while implementing quality assurance processes to ensure highest standards of product quality.
  • Oversee validation and verification activities for nuclear systems and components, including technical reviews and design verification activities.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of nuclear industry regulations and standards.
  • Partner with Product Managers to ensure engineering execution aligns with product strategy and coordinate with manufacturing and supply chain teams on production planning.
  • Support technology maturation from R&D through production implementation and facilitate knowledge sharing between development and production teams.
  • Maintain professional demeanor and behavior at all times in all forms of communication.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by manager.

Job Profile Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related technical field from an accredited university.
  • Typically, ten years of professional engineering experience.
  • Strong background in product development, technology maturation, and transition to production (TRL/MRL)
  • Demonstrated experience leading successful technical teams in regulated industries.
  • Experience in one or more key technical areas:
    • High Temperature / High Pressure Components and Fluid Systems
    • Advanced Heat Exchangers
    • Power Conversion Systems
    • Radiation Shielding Systems
    • Advanced Civil Structures / Modular Construction

Compensation

As required by Maryland and other applicable state law, X Energy, LLC (X-energy) lists the expected compensation range for a publicly advertised job opportunity based upon the job requirements (e.g. education/training, experience, skill sets, etc.).  Individual candidates who meet the job requirements for the posted position will be offered a salary within this range based on their respective levels of education/training, experience, and other qualifications unique to them.  Salary ranges may vary based on the specific office location and region referenced in the posting to take into consideration differences in cost of living and may not be reflective of all regions.  Please note that compensation ranges listed for US job postings reflect base salary only and do not include benefits or other incentives. 

A reasonable estimate for this position at the level of experience required is:

$145,260- $201,750
