Overview

The Manager Internal Communications is responsible for crafting clear, engaging, and strategic communications that connect Joby Team Members with the company’s priorities and vision. This role reports into the Head of People and partners closely with the People leadership team, senior leaders, business partners, and MarComms to build and execute communication strategies that foster awareness, understanding, and pride in the company’s culture and mission. This role is onsite in Santa Cruz, California. 

Responsibilities

Strategic Communication Planning:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive internal communications strategy aligned with company goals and cultural priorities.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to the executive team, crafting and refining internal messaging to ensure clarity and impact.

Content Development & Multi-Channel Execution:

  • Plan, create, and manage relevant content across multimedia channels, including email, intranet, display screens, and print materials.
  • Deliver key communication materials, including:
    • Key messages
    • Leadership talking points
    • Targeted emails
    • Articles and content
    • Video scripts 
    • FAQs

All-Hands Meetings & Internal Events:

  • Partner with stakeholders to design and execute dynamic all-hands meetings and internal events that engage and inform employees.
  • Manage content creation, agenda development, and speaker preparation for internal forums.

Crisis Communication:

  • Act as a key communications partner during high-pressure situations, ensuring timely, accurate, and empathetic messaging.
  • Develop crisis communication playbooks and templates to proactively prepare for potential challenges.

Executive and People Communications:

  • Provide strategic communications support for key enterprise-wide initiatives, including:
    • Executive communications support for the Head of People
    • People strategic programs and system rollouts
    • Team Member Listening campaigns

Employee Engagement & Feedback:

  • Develop programs to foster two-way communication and ensure employees feel heard and valued.
  • Collaborate with People, MarComms, and other teams to measure and enhance internal communication effectiveness.
  • Collect and analyze data to assess communication impact and drive future strategy improvements.

Required

  • 8+ years of experience in internal communications.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, or a related field.
  • Proven expertise in executive communications, including speechwriting and presentation development.
  • Strong track record of successfully managing large-scale internal events like all-hands meetings.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills, with the ability to translate complex concepts into clear and engaging content.
  • Experience in crisis communications, with the ability to maintain composure and deliver clear messaging under pressure.
  • Familiarity with modern communication tools (e.g., Slack, Microsoft Teams) and platforms (e.g., Sharepoint).
  • Demonstrated ability to thrive in a fast-paced, agile, and dynamic workplace.

  • Advanced degree in Communications, Marketing, or Journalism.
  • Deep understanding of the aviation or mobility industries.
  • Experience working with global, distributed teams and cross-cultural communication.

Additional Information

Compensation at Joby is a combination of base pay and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). The target base pay for this position is $110,800 - $179,400/year. The compensation package will be determined by job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
