JOB TITLE:    Curbside Fleet Operations Manager

LOCATION:    4150 Platt Rd, Ann Arbor

FLSA STATUS:
This position is Non-Exempt for purposes of federal wage-hour law.

Position Description Summary:
The Fleet Manager at Recycle Ann Arbor will lead efforts to drive revenue growth, improve operational efficiency, and ensure our mission is demonstrated in the provision of services while meeting all regulatory requirements. We value candidates from diverse backgrounds, with experience as champions of customer service and safety-first practices related to fleet management. The Fleet Manager will oversee the management of our people and the maintenance of our fleet of vehicles used in collection and recycling operations. Under the direction of Director of Operations, the Fleet Operations Manager’s Duties include, but are not limited to, the following: to serve as the point of contact for safety, compliance, performance management, daily routing needs, including managing routes and routing systems, overseeing accounts, and creating daily driver board & assignments.  This position is also responsible for contract management and associated meeting and interactions such as meetings with customers, answering phone calls/emails regarding missed pickups, customer complaints, and tracking data within the software.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
•    Manage all aspects of the organization’s collections fleet program including leasing, purchases, sales, maintenance, and repair process.
•    Supervise and manage a team of drivers, mechanics, and fleet personnel, ensuring high performance, accountability, and compliance with company policies. Meets with Drivers and maintenance staff daily.  Plans daily route operations for Drivers. With assistance of Lead Driver, dispatches daily routes to drivers via FleetSafe systems, check all camera views on each truck, and note any outages.
•    Drive revenue and profitability by identifying business opportunities, growing sales, and forecasting resource needs for fleet operations.
•    Monitor vehicle usage and performance to ensure timely and efficient operations in line with service schedules and customer expectations.
•    Ensure timely repairs and troubleshooting of mechanical issues, working closely with in-house maintenance teams or external vendors.
•    Maintain records of all fleet maintenance, repairs, and inspections, and ensure vehicles comply with safety and environmental regulations.
•    Ensure all fleet operations adhere to safety standards, local, state, and federal regulations, and environmental laws.
•    Conduct regular safety audits, vehicle inspections, and driver training to minimize accidents and vehicle downtime. 
•    Monitor the divisions performance through KPIs, telematics and other tracking systems, safety metrics, revenue, compliance, and new business opportunities associated with equipment, drivers, safety, maintenance, and training processes. 
•    Provide regular reports on fleet operations, maintenance status, and budget performance to senior management.
•    With the Director of Operations, develop and manage the divisions profit and loss statement and business plan.
•    Manage customer service and other relationships to support growth. Report, track and maintain all customer service interactions, including, but not limited to, missed pick-ups, cart requests/deliveries, and other relevant service issues to customers through appropriate means of resolution (i.e., City Works or other programs);
•    Build and maintain a high-performance culture that supports individual and team success.
•    Ensure that all company vehicles and employees meet safety and compliance requirements, including DOT and OSHA guidelines as well as company policies.
•    Collaborate with other managers and others to resolve issues such as revenue, billing, performance, and compliance.
•    Centrally administers fleet software utilization Fleet Safe, Fleetmind etc. and ensures compliance with City Reporting Systems. 
•    Works closely with staff accounting department for vehicle titling, registrations and finance
•    Work closely with customers to ensure proper management of contract for residential and business collections.
•    Engage in thorough investigations of service issues and creative problem solving in order to fully understand the issue with a resident’s service and resolve it.

Required Skills and Abilities:
•    Proficiency working with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), cell phones, tablets, other technology
•    Outstanding customer service skills.  Ability to work with upset and frustrated customers
•    Clear, concise, professional communication style. Strong ability to effectively articulate ideas through both individual verbal conversations and written communication, and to explain the benefit of recycling, composting, and working towards zero-waste.
•    Ability to multi task and easily switch between projects
•    Ability to complete assigned tasks under stressful situations
•    Ability to organize and plan work to meet established deadlines
•    Knowledge of geographic area roadways and streets preferred

Education and Experience Requirements:
•    Possess a high school diploma or GED, Associate’s Degree in related field preferred
•    2+ years supervising fleet operations or equivalent
•    Valid Driver’s License (Class B)
•    Residential recycling collection experience, preferred
•    Vehicle fleet dispatching and routing experience (balancing, creating, re-routing), preferred
•    Experience working with routing systems, i.e., Fleet Mind, preferred
•    Professional verbal and written business communication

Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift at least 25 pounds unassisted at times
Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, climb, squat for extended periods of time
