Job Description

Location: Any of our offices or Home Based

We’re making zero carbon happen

We’re OVO Group, a big family of companies united by a single vision: to get to zero carbon, fast.

We call this Plan Zero – and it shows how we’ll be fighting the climate crisis and transforming the way people use energy over the next decade. To do this, we need the sharpest minds. Are you up for the challenge?

Do great green things with OVO Energy

So much has changed since we launched in 2009.  Our goal remains the same though: make energy cheaper, greener, and simpler. Just as it was on day one.

Everyone belongs at OVO

Our aim is to build a diverse and inclusive movement: teams of brilliant people, with unique talents, skills, passions, and experiences.

We encourage everyone to join us, whatever your gender identity, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, age, life experience, or background. So please come as you are – we can’t wait to meet you.

Where in the world of OVO will I be working?

You will be working across our Trading and technology teams. You will be the key interface between the two departments and the enabler to get things done. With such high levels of volatility in the energy markets, increased focus has been placed on Trading within OVO to ensure that we are effectively managing our risks and employing best-in-class reporting and optimisation. The role will play a key part in the transformation of the Trading team architecture and the roll out of a best-in-class trading analytics and reporting program.

Product Managers at OVO are responsible for working with a broad range of people that include exceptionally talented Product Managers, Software Engineers, Designers, Researchers, Data Scientists and Marketers to build products that our users love.

What will I be doing?

You will be working in the Trading team, directly supporting the Head of Trading Operations and Analysis in the execution of an architecture redesign across our Trading core systems, acting as the key interface between Trading and the Trading Tech development team.

The delivery of the trading tech transformation project will be balanced against the business as usual requirements of the Trading Tech team; you will ensure that the development lifecycle and timelines for delivery are communicated effectively to the Trading management team to ensure that priorities are set to best support the wider objectives of the Trading function.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Product definition - you can parse a loosely-defined problem into concrete products to be built by engineers. You can gather requirements from a broad set of teams with sometimes-competing priorities. You can help teams to lift their head out of the status quo to see the art of the possible.
  • Planning - you can take a consistent and ongoing approach to planning, forecasting, estimating, managing uncertainty, metrics and measurements, contingency planning and roadmapping. You know how to communicate plans, planning assumptions and progress to a range of stakeholders. You can maintain the cadence of delivery and manage the relationships between different people within and across teams.
  • Agile and Lean practises - know about and can lead on a range of Agile and Lean tools and techniques, with an ability to coach within and outside of your team. You can establish a feedback loop for teams; you can take responsibility for the translation and measurement of value (what you put in and what you will get out).
  • Commercial management - can support effective budget management within the constraints of the project. You know how to monitor projected budgets against expenditure.
  • Communication skills - know how to communicate effectively across organisational, technical and political boundaries, understanding the context. You can advocate and communicate what a team does to create trust and authenticity. You know how to successfully react and respond to challenges.
  • Life-cycle perspective - understand the different phases of delivery and can contribute to, plan or run these. Can maintain a product or process through the delivery phases, into life and then into retirement. You know how to lead a team through the different phases of the delivery product life cycle. You understand incident management and service support so that products are built effectively.
  • Maintaining delivery momentum - can solve issues and unblock problems. You know how to drive a team and set the pace, ensuring teams are working towards delivery commitments. You can engage in elements of risk management such as effectively managing and tracking the mitigation of risks. You can manage various dependencies across teams and departments.
  • Making the process work - focus on the outcome, not frameworks. You can challenge and improve disproportionate organisational processes where it impacts the pace of the team. You can identify what works best for the team and when to utilise certain processes.
  • Team dynamics and collaboration - you know how to build successful delivery teams. You understand team styles and how people work together. You can maintain, influence and motivate a team. You can give and receive feedback, facilitating the feedback loop. You can ensure the health of a team and facilitate conflict resolution, accelerating team performance. You can ensure that the team works in a transparent way and that the work is understood externally.

Is this the job for me?

You will have good experience and awareness of agile techniques and optimizing delivery processes. You will have experience putting these skills to work to enable smooth flow of work through an enterprise technology team with a focus on ensuring delivery of  desired outcomes. You will be able to converse with stakeholders and teams to shape their requirements and the delivery approach. You do not need to be an expert in enterprise technology but you should have a good awareness of the technologies, capabilities and skills required for a team to be successful in this space.

Ideally you will have:

  • Being able to draw together the delivery of multiple, complex and interdependent streams of work from a range of stakeholders
  • Ability to plan long-term strategic programmes and regularly zoom into the detail to guide and support delivery on the ground.
  • Experience capturing, collating and prioritising user requirements.
  • Are passionate about working in a dynamic environment and responding to change
  • Love sharing your skills and experiences with colleagues
  • Have high emotional intelligence and ability to empathise and work through differing opinions
  • Know your strengths, yet recognise there’s always more to learn from others
  • Build bridges with people across the organisation
  • Humbly embrace servant leadership
