Job Description

ABOUT THE POSITION

We are looking for a Communications Intern to help us drive Generate Capital’s brand equity by designing and delivering a brand-new website end-to-end. This person will work with a variety of senior stakeholders across the business to identify key messages, co-create written and visual content, design the website architecture, and run focus groups to gather input. This person will report to our Communications Associate and partner closely with our Director of Marketing and Communications and web developer. This position is ideal for someone who is passionate about web design or product, a great communicator, enjoys writing and creating visual content, is organized and detail-oriented, and thrives in a fast-paced, mission-based organization. You know how to place yourself in the mind of the audience and develop the best possible web experience from their perspective. You are a process- and results-oriented person, passionate about the type of work Generate is doing, and looking to apply your experience to help scale a growing business and drive critical internal process efficiencies.

What you will be doing at Generate Capital as the Communications Associate:

  • Operating as part of the Communications Team and attending Generate Capital events
  • Reviewing current website and those of peers to outline strengths and weaknesses
  • Identifying key messages for different audience target groups through interviews and structured data collection
  • Developing website architecture in close collaboration with key stakeholders and Communications teammates
  • Collecting written and visual content for web design
  • Project manage development of webpages with web developer in timely, smooth manner
  • Conducting focus groups and reviews with senior stakeholders to present demos and gather feedback
  • Presenting finalized website in office All Hands

Candidate qualifications & core characteristics

  • A demonstrated passion for, or commitment to, our mission and sustainability
  • Prior experience in web development with portfolio available for review
  • Undergraduate academic, internship or project experience in marketing and communications or product management
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office suite (Excel, PowerPoint and Word) and familiarity with Basecamp (or other project management tools)
  • Experience with design tools (e.g. Adobe)
  • Excellent self-management capability and commitment to self-development
  • High level of self-awareness and humility, with excitement about confronting uncomfortable situations or new challenges
  • Intellectual agility and curiosity, superb analytical skills; problem-solving is your default mode
  • Unimpeachable integrity
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, including empathy, intuition, and listening as well as strong writing, editing, and basic design skills.
