Where in the world of OVO will I be working?

Your office will be based in our London/Bristol Headquarters, and sit within OVO Energy’s Smart home Division, but this can be a remote role with travel into the office as and when required. You will report in to the Head of Innovation in OVO Smart Home.

What will I be doing?

Reporting to the Head of Zero Carbon Living the Senior Commercial manager will help OVO to build and scale the decarbonisation of heat business. Focusing on low carbon technologies like Air Source Heat Pumps and Zero Emission Boilers, this role offers the opportunity to help shape the 5 year business plan by owning the commercials, playing a key role in the project management and leading on all partnership opportunities.


As we grow our ZCL team and increase our efforts to decarbonise homes and transport for our 5 million customers’, we need a specialist with a breadth of knowledge across low carbon technologies. Specifically, the successful candidate would:

  • Building and maintaining the decarbonisation of heat budget for ZCL, in collaboration with the finance team and leadership.
  • Owning the economics of existing and new propositions, leading workstreams with the product teams to drive stable profitability.
  • Contributing ideas and commercial awareness to the product development and prioritisation process for low carbon tech.
  • Taking responsibility for managing and developing relationships with existing and new partners in the low carbon space.
  • Work closely with the project management team to bring products to market.
  • Work closely with the product and tech team on all customer journey designs and product builds.
  • Evaluate the risks, challenges and opportunities, making recommendations on future strategy.
  • Develop and support creation of our end-to-end low carbon GTM strategy, then eithern own those processes or handover to the relevant teams.
  • Contribute to policy asks, project bids, partnership development.
  • Engaging with the public affairs team and staying abreast of relevant heat policy consultations and decisions, to help ZCL adapt to the policy environment in which it operates.
  • Support strategic & commercial evaluation of various products and innovation projects in low carbon heat.
  • Weekly performance reporting.
  • Representing OVO at external events.

 

Is this the job for me?

Ideally you will be/have the following:

  • Experience of building business cases and forecast models.
  • A track record of developing partnerships that include both commercial and marketing considerations.
  • Ideally experience working with low carbon and renewable tech such as heat pumps, heat batteries, electric vehicle chargers, solar PV and batteries.
  • Ideally have a sound technical knowledge of low carbon products.
  • Familiarity with MCS standards and accreditations such as RECC/HIES.
  • Excellent communication skills, with an ability to engage audiences through effective narrative and innovative content;
  • Experience of working on funded innovation projects with specific criteria, deliverables and outcomes.
  • Effective networking and influencing skills
  • Some technical knowledge of energy retail, the transition to a zero carbon grid and flexible energy systems
  • Proven project management skills, with an ability to see the bigger picture and deliver work at a fast pace
  • Skilled at writing with an ability to explain complex topics and issues in a way that is accessible to a wide range of audiences
  • Adaptable and flexible approach to plans, able to respond confidently and positively to changing scenarios
  • Ability to manage internal and external stakeholders and ability to build, develop and maintain relationships and present confidently to senior stakeholders
  • Able to operate independently as part of a small, hard-working team an prepared to assist outside of office hours where necessary to meet project
    requirements.
