Where in the world of OVO will I be working?

The Market Design and Incubation team is a strategic insight and incubation hub sitting within the Commercial area. Following the energy crisis, in a time of unprecedented change in the energy industry, the function works closely with our folks across OVO Group’s businesses to provide expert analysis and insight on a range of energy industry and emerging policy areas. It drives value across the Group by identifying emerging risks and opportunities and incubating novel approaches to addressing them.

The team is embedded within the Commercial function to ensure strong ties with the commercial operation of the Retail business, but reaches beyond the immediate team to support the wider business. It acts a critical friend to any area of the Group responding to changes in the energy landscape, and as a strategic advisor to senior leadership and business planning. The function primarily considers the longer term -  looking over the 2-5 year horizon, and maintaining a vision of the energy sector over the next 10 years.

 

What will I be doing?

Within the wider function, the Market Design and Insight team are responsible for understanding emerging energy sector risks and opportunities. We will maintain an open “library” of relevant literature and insights, and build novel models, analysis or research to explore key topics of energy industry change. We use this deep industry insight to inform strategic goals and, where appropriate, publish papers, blogs or responses to policy engagement to establish OVO as a leading voice in the energy transition and a trusted partner for consumers.

The Market Design Manager / Business Partner will build relationships with colleagues across the business to identify and understand requirements, supporting the prioritisation of these requirements into the Market Design team. They will also own the secondment scheme to support the development of analysts and market awareness across the business and ensure a pipeline of critical skills. Specific responsibilities include:

  • Build and maintain relationships with the business at a working level
  • Identify and recruit secondees
  • Manage the prioritisation, workflow and support of the secondee base
  • Facilitate briefings, learning materials and training sessions for the business, working with experts from across the business to facilitate appropriate level of detail

 

Is this the job for me?

It's important that you have:

  • Good collaborator management skills, forming strong relationships internally and externally. A great teammate, open communicator and collaborator.
  • Strong and broad communication skills, including the ability to synthesise the inputs from their team members to deliver engaging learning materials
  • A self-starter with a high degree of initiative and a proactive approach to resource planning and problem solving
  • Working-level understanding of the UK Energy sector

Ideally you'll have:

  • Working-level understanding of regulatory environment in UK Energy
  • Intermediate-to-advanced data analysis skills, ideally in Big Query and Python
  • Strong prioritisation skills with a flexible, “find a way” mentality
