Where in the world of OVO will I be working?

You will be joining the Developer Experience area of our OVO Tech Engineering organisation, which includes considering how we best find, onboard, enable and develop software engineering skills,  and how we build progressive and inclusive culture and career paths at OVO Tech. This is an exciting new role with the potential to have huge, far-reaching and enduring impact.

Infrastructure, Reliability and Developer Experience combines various enabling teams to focus on cross-cutting initiatives at OVO Tech that not only make engineering faster, but more joyful. Better software means less waste and ultimately that we can better support OVO and our members on the journey towards zero-carbon living.

You’ll be initially reporting to our Tech Director across Developer Experience as we develop the org structure further.

What will I be doing?

  • Partnering with wider teams to lead initiatives that develop software engineering skills in OVO.
  • Driving our apprenticeship programme ‘OVO Tech Academy’, ensuring it’s effective design and impact on participants.
  • Supporting the design and delivery of programmes that both guide and level-up our engineering competencies, in turn empowering teams and engineering managers to own their development programmes  to achieve our technology strategy.
  • Engaging with our recruitment processes, onboarding and our evolving career progression framework. We want to build the world’s leading engineering culture to solve the hardest problem facing humanity.

Is this the job for me?

We are looking for personable, proactive, high EQ leaders with excellent agile engineering experience.  

It would be excellent if:

  • You have enough technical experience to be able to contribute to and guide technical discussions and coach/facilitate a group in seeing the wider context and/or proposing agile engineering practices as a route through challenges.
  • You are passionate about exploring continuous improvement of products, tools and processes.
  • You’re passionate about nurturing and cultivating engineering culture and talent.
  • You believe in the principles of open communication and modern development/agile practices
  • You have experience with software engineering hands-on and are willing to work in areas of testing practices, quality and automation of these into CI and CD pipelines
  • You appreciate the challenges of learning new technical concepts, especially with a lens of neurodiversity
  • You use your influence and stakeholder management skills to have wide-reaching impact
