Job Description

We’re making zero carbon happen

We’re OVO Group, a big family of companies united by a single vision: to get to zero carbon, fast.

We call this Plan Zero – and it shows how we’ll be fighting the climate crisis and transforming the way people use energy over the next decade. To do this, we need the sharpest minds. Are you up for the challenge?

Do great green things with OVO Energy

So much has changed since we launched in 2009.  Our goal remains the same though: make energy cheaper, greener, and simpler. Just as it was on day one.

Everyone belongs at OVO

Our aim is to build a diverse and inclusive movement: teams of brilliant people, with unique talents, skills, passions, and experiences.

We encourage everyone to join us, whatever your gender identity, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, age, life experience, or background. So please come as you are – we can’t wait to meet you.

Where in the world of OVO will I be working?

The Data Scientists will be responsible for helping to drive value across OVO’s Operations organization, implementing a data product approach. The Data Scientists will focus on customer contact reduction (working with the Customer Experience Director) and revenue, payments and debt with the support of their managers, and in some cases data product managers. By implementing regression, segmentation and NLP models, as well as A/B testing, the Data Scientists will improve the OVO customer experience and create real commercial impact.

What will I be doing?

  • Work closely with stakeholders to identify, define, and develop data science opportunities to drive customer and commercial benefit
  • These can range from improving the customer experience, reducing contacts and identifying the next best action for customers through to ensuring our customers are set up for success financially during this challenging time
  • Build and own machine learning models, with a data product approach
  • Responsible for the whole lifecycle from prototyping and modelling through to productionisation and maintenance
  • Lead on the identification and use of appropriate methodology for the use case at hand. In some cases, this may be a complex machine learning model, in others this may be helping design and evaluate an A/B test.
  • Lean on the wider data science community to ensure your approach follows best practice and continuously innovates
  • Communicate and present complex data to audiences of all technical levels and seniority, using appropriate data visualizations to tell a story with data and work with the stakeholders to ensure application of outputs
  • Play an active role in the data science community to contribute to a culture of collaboration, openness and innovation and keep up to date with the latest data science developments

Is this the job for me?

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a similar data science role
  • Experience using cloud platforms, (ideally GCP and DataRobot) for rapid prototyping
  • Experience using common data science tooling (in particular SQL, Python, Github)
  • Able to translate business requirements into opportunities for machine learning solutions, providing compelling presentations to senior audiences
  • Leading on the design and delivery of identified data science projects collaboratively through to deployment
  • Experience in a range of machine learning and statistical techniques including unsupervised learning, NLP and predictive models
  • Passionate about modeling and coding best practice such as testing, ethical AI and reusability
  • Growth mindset with enthusiasm for learning and helping others to learn
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment where prioritization is required

Ideally you will have:

  • Education to degree level in numeric, engineering, or scientific discipline – Master’s or PhD preferred
  • Experience in scheduling platform like Airflow or Dataform
  • Experience in data visualisation tools such as Tableau or Power BI
  • An understanding of good software engineering practices
